Carrying A Boat
New guy to this forum. Looking for help. Bought a Flagstaff T12BH camper Saturday. Camping always includes fishing for my wife and I. I plan to load a 14' cartopper boat on the camper one way or another. Before I start fabricating something on my own I would like to know if anybody here has put cross bars on the model camper I have to haul a 140 pound load? Thank you for your consideration.

well one of the most innovated room racks i have ever seen was a tent trailer at Sharbot lake in ontario. the owner had constructed a welded metal rack that was attached at that front V, then to the back bumper extensions. the whole unit was able to be lifted off, after the boat was removed, and set aside to let the camper open.
looked like he spent a few hundred dollars on the system, but it saved the roof of the popup, which is primary in our type of campers ..
hope this helps .. welcome to the forum ... nice to see another fisherman in the ranks ..

My recommendation would be to build/buy the rack for the top of the truck, assuming that you are towing with a pickup. I built a rear rack for my Avalanche, and use a Yakima gutter clip rack over the cab to haul my canoe.

I second use of the tow vehicle to carry
a light boat or canoe.
I don't have one, but porta-bote.com has some portable boats that work well.
Good luck!

Yeah, think about this: Are you going to pull your camper along to the boat ramp to launch the boat? Or will you be more likely to set up your camper at a campsite, then drive only your vehicle and boat to the boat ramp?

Boat Rack
We carry a 14 ft, 125 lb Mad River Canoe with us everywhere we go. I use a set of ladder racks and electric winch that I bought from HD. Wench was $80 and racks were $289. I just hook up the winch to the canoe and run it right up on top of the racks, then flip it upside down. The tie-down attachments are adjustable for securing the boat.

Here are pix of racks and winch. You have to zoom in to see the cable and pulleys. Sure takes a load off having to mount it by myself.

Thanks to those who replied.
My plan is to load a 14' car topper boat on the camper roof. When we get to the campground I will drive to the boat launch, take off the boat, attach the motor and drive the boat to the shore at our campsite while the wife pulls the camper to the campsite.
AS far as the porta-bote. I watched a couple of clips of them on the internet. I suspect that they would not be as durable as I would need.

I believe you will find that "140 lb" boat will get a lot heavier by the time you get it up on top of your camper. Hope you have help with it. I have to do my loading/unloading by myself.
