Ceiling hooks

These hooks are on the ceiling panel over the queen size bed on my Rockwood A212HW A-Frame. They are intended for hanging a cloth shelf of a sorts to use as a pantry. There are a total of four attachment points. They appear to be attached by pop rivets and do not go all the way through the panel to the outside. Makes me wonder if they are anchored into a metal "stud". Can anyone tell me if these roof panels have framing studs to provide rigidity?

I am wondering how strong they are, too. What sorts of things do the rest of you hang from them?

Ya know I'd like to know the answer to these questions and after sitting and studying the matter, or I should say laying on the bed and looking up at them for at least a half hour I decided that who ever placed them there must have had a long night. I hooked the shelving unit up to it and can't find any way to use both the shelving unit and the pull down rack. One gets in the way of the other. My conclusion is the hooks should have been put in over the microwave not over the sink.

I've seen where the bar is between the hooks, and yeah that's about useless. My unit has the bar close to the hooks, we use it to hang towels. Got a pic of yours Nancy?

Yeah, see on mine the wardrobe is shifted to the left about 12 inches. I wonder if any of it can be moved?

I'm beginning to suspect there's no rhyme or reason for the location. According to the tech rep from the factory with whom I spoke those d-ring loops aren't anchored into anything more substantial than thin sheet metal. I wouldn't hang more than 10lbs in that rack. I asked if the roof panels had any structural framing to which he said only on the perimeter. I've come up with an elegant solution I do believe. I'll be posting pictures in a day or so. My solution involves attaching d-ring anchors to the roof above the sink/refrigerator counter in my A212HW just below the levers that lock that side to the roof panels. Using carabiners I then clip a reinforced 6'4" wire closet shelf from Home Depot to the d-rings. I then hang 4 wire baskets and a paper towel dispenser from the shelf. The storage space is awesome.

Just had this same conversation with my husband. What an awful placement. Kinda like placing the Emergency Exit - you know, in case of FIRE - directly over the stove - you know - the thing that would be on fire! Duh

Ok campers, I got the shelf in and the wife and I love it. Here's the finished product loaded up.



To start with I located my d-ring hooks far enough down from the roof peak so as not to be a problem when the roof is collapsed flat. As you can see they are slightly below the locking levers for the side. Additionally, I placed the a bit over 4" from the wall and the second one an additional12" from the first. My shelf is 12" deep.



To attach the d-rings I cut some 1/8" x 2" steel flat stock into 3" plates, drilled, sanded, primed, and painted to match on the outside of the roof. I used 1/4" x 2" stainless steel screws and nuts and a generous coating of silicone caulk between the plates and roof.



Looking back on it I wish I'd mounted the d-ring 90° from current. Would be easier to attach the type of clips I chose. I attached, with zip ties, a round ridged curtain rod, painted white, to the back of the closet shelving to keep the shelf from sagging. I used sturdy clips to attach the shelf first to the rear d-ring then to the front.



Once the shelf is hung I suspend wire hanging baskets from the shelf. You might also notice I now have a place to mount my paper towel holder.

The width of the shelf is about an inch or two under the width of the camper so it stores nicely on the back queen sized bed.

Do not put any real weight on the hooks since they are in Very Thin sheet metal. Just for example the curtains have a Velcro pad screwed into the siding and I find them pulled out once and a while and I have to push them Back in. I like the idea of using the Hanging clothes bar to support a little more weight.

MY hooks are securely anchored to plate steel on exterior of camper. I've had it loaded with about 50 lbs.

Holding up very well. No leaks and we've had lots of rain.
