CO alarm set off by water heater

Hi everyone,

I bought an A128S last Spring, been enjoying it all through the summer. I'd say that I've spent 20 nights in it, at least. On my camping trip this weekend, we had a strong wind that was hitting the drivers side of the camper (the side with the water heater, fridge, etc). This wind came up around midnight each night and blew until 4 AM. Twice I woke up to the CO alarm screaming at me. What I noticed was that the alarm went off when the water heater kicked on and was running. My thought was that the wind was somehow blowing fumes into the camper.

Anyone else experience something similar to this? When I reached down to mute the detector, I could smell fumes at ground level in the trailer.

The third night, I turned off the water heater before going to sleep, and we had the same wind, but no issues that night.

That happened to me last night, I wonder if the water level was low?

From what you say, I would assume that the wind was your culprit. For your own piece of mind, see what happens on your next camp out, if you can still smell fumes and the CO2 alarm goes off, have it checked out. As for myself, I turn off the water heater after morning wash up and after dinner clean up to save on propane. The water heater holds temp pretty well. Good Luck.
