Creative new trailer

Has anyone seen one of the new Safari Condo Alto travel trailers? We had one across the road from us last Spring down at Jekyll Island campground. Pretty interesting. Go to Safaricondo.com, click on travel trailers, R series. If you think the A-frames draw a lot of attention, try having one of the Altos. There was an almost steady stream of "lookers" at the one camped across from us.

Yeah, that is pretty cool but the price!!! $36,000CAD is more than I would spend. I would certainly stop and investigate if I saw one in the campground though!

That's the starting price for the more expensive retractable roof mode. or .... $28K US. You can pull it with about anything and it would be cheap on gas. I like it.

http://www.safaricondo.com/pdf/alto_en.pdf

Retractable roof weighs 1683 lb... fixed roof 1592. Amazing.

A Trailmanor 2720 lists for $35K

Very nice concept. Yes it is expensive relative to an FR AFrame, but it is an aluminum trailer. Frame, floor and roof. Rather than steel, OSB and fiberglass. The interior of the retractable must be very bright during the long Canadian summer days with all those windows. Something like having a canvas pop up again. only quieter.

They call the R1713 bed a "king," but at 76" long, that is a RV marketing fib. A true Queen or King is 80". The lengthwise bed at least minimises the problem of one sleeper having to crawl over the other to get out. The brochure mentions an 82" interior height so unlike many teardrops, there is at least a place to stand.

It is a neat looking camper and I like the thought that was put into the design.

Tom, yes, it is pricy. I don't know what $ 36,000 Canadian comes out to in U.S. dollars, but I'm sure someone will tell me.

I really like the split bed arrangement in the rear. That was one of the things that led me to buy the A213 HW. You don't have to crawl over your bed-mate for those middle-of-the-night calls. I have looked and looked for that arrangement in other RV's without success. There seems to be an assumption that everyone wants to sleep together, and it "ain't necessarily so." Instead of splitting the bed, manufacturers seem to be locked into stacking them in claustrophobic bunks. I do like the aluminum framework and the view, with the roof raised, is incredible!

Yeah, they've been out for awhile.
Saw it on a different forum a couple of years ago.

The price is what everyone commented on, more than its uniqueness.

A friend of mine has one. First time I went in a nd looked around I hit my head going out. Turned me off completely that and the price. Though I do love that the Fridge is Compressor based and draws power from flexible solar panels on the roof.

I noticed the price, but should have considered quality first... that and economical aspects of it. They could make it more appealing to the American mass market, just make it 30 feet longer, add ten thousand pounds and then a couple more axles... make it out of wood and make it so the roof leaks and it lasts only a few years... make it so you need a one ton truck... then raise the price accordingly. What were they thinking.

Google up Tear Drop trailers or Tiny Travel trailers (or go to Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers • Index page) and there's probably someone in the U.S. who has built something fairly close. Lots of information on their web site and never ending reading.
