Digital thermostat

I did a search and didn't find the answer. Has anyone swapped their analog thermostat (2011 A122 with cool cat) with a honeywell digital programmable unit.

There is an older thread on this subject.

Hardside A-Frame and thermostat upgrade

I think the final consensus is that it was not feasible to buy a new type digital thermostat (same type as those used on 2012 + models). The inner workings of the older Cool Cats were not compatible with the newer digital units.

I believe that someone was going to try to buy an off the shelf digital thermostat (like used in the home and possibly RV's) and try it. I don't recall if anyone ever actually did this and followed up in any posts.

The most common sway is using a Hunter Douglas t'stat found at places like WalMart for around 20 dollars plus the addition of a sub miniture SPST switch from Radio Shack. The HD thermostat uses 2 AA batteries for it's power source. There are wiring instructions online for both Coleman/Atwood and Dometic AC units. Something different than that and you would probably have to do some experimenting to get it right.

I'll confirm that the domestic thermostat (digital) won't work on the 2011's. That is based on a call to Dometic. There is a different control system used in the cool cat.

Not sure on the Hunter Douglas solution with our aframes. I'd be Interested to see a home that manages a solution that works.
