Dinette Tables Modification A128s

This past week we decided to move the smaller table in our "U" shaped back dinette to the front dinette position in our A128s. This frees up a huge amount of space in the cabin!

Our modification assumes you have a model that has the 2 dinette configuration.

We bought an extra pedestal leg and 2 pedestal bases from Camping World. I mounted a new floor base in the front dinette area.

Like you, we are in the process of buying or making a new table for the back dinette. Temporarily we are using the round top from an old dark oak "lazy Susan" as a table in the back dinette.
The "lazy Kenzie" is the sheltie.






I cut and my wife stained nice 12" and 10" pine bed slats for both ends of the camper to replace the need for the large table as a bed support. (The smaller back table is still used as shown.)



Advantages:

• Much more room in the camper!
• Easier to set up the front as a bed. That heavy table is kind of hard to manage. (Pinches fingers, etc.)
• One of the slats will be left in position to form a low front shelf to hold items during the day at the front of the trailer.
• The pedestal table is MUCH more stable. I've spilled drinks more than once getting in and out of my seat.
• I always felt that the back table at the back dinette was too big as well. The smaller "lazy Susan" table is easier to get around and yet still holds drinks, laptops, etc.
• Added versatility. The larger table is still available if we think we will need it on any trips. (Right now it is stored in our house.)
• The extra slats can be store under the seat or at the nose of the cabin out of the way.

Disadvantages:

• The back table in the front dinette position is smaller. However, it works really well for 2 people.
• I had to install a floor mount in front dinette floor.
• Those raised pedestal floor mounts have a tendency to get in the way when the tables are stowed.
• The "lazy Susan" table is slightly too small and doesn't match the rest of the interior as well as we would like. It's actually a little too good for our "Rocko". I plan on making or buying another small rectangular table. My wife and I found a table laminate seems to match the existing installation is Wilsonart's Jeweled Coral pattern (4866).

These are really nice changes! You two definitely created more room for yourselves! Kenzie looks pretty pleased as well! Please post pics as you continue to upgrade! I love seeing how these trailers can be "remodeled" inside!

Its also fun to identify with the need to name the trailer! All my vehicles have names and the trailer too! My trailer is known as "the Autobot" (our own personal Transformer)

I like what you did and that really makes me think about my A128S. It does appear you have more room but we use both beds when camping. Wife says I snore too much but it's her not me.

My wife thinks just like your wife. I agree with you. It's her.

The boards work well for both beds, they're much easier to set up and take down. I don't think that I mentioned it clearly in my first post, but for the back dinette/bed, we use a 10" and a 12" shelf board as the bed supports. For the front dinette/bed, we use a 10" and a 12" shelf board, as well as the small table, as the bed supports.

My wife restained the boards (as well as the supports-ours had never been stained) with a color that better matches the cabinets. I added new velcro to both the supports and boards.

Currently, she is making a woods/bear themed tablecloth for the small round table.

Great job! I was wanting to replace the folding legs on my table also. I looked at Camper World and they have 2 different bases. What was the name/part no. for the base, leg, and top base that you used?

We actually purchased the table mounting bases/hubs at the Camping World in Calera, AL. We used 2 of these. One was used as the base of the round table the other was positioned as the floor base in the front dinette area. These units look just like the Rockwood supplied base.

On line, this appears to be the correct item.

We ordered the table legs on line - we replaced both of the legs as the Rockwood supplied leg on the back dinette was not as nice looking as the legs we looked at the store and ultimately received.

(You may want to measure your table pedestal leg to make sure it is the correct length as shown below.)
