Draining water tank?
We have been draining our water tank after each trip, but about an inch and a half always remains in the tank. What are we doing wrong?

Are you level when you drain it? To get all of it out you might have to be lower on the drain side.

Nothing!
If you what to get more out you can try lifting one side, but I doubt it will be worth the effort.

I always leave the fresh water drain valve open on the ride home. It gets most (not all) of the remainder out.

Your not doing anything wrong, If your worried about stale water just add a little bleach or sweet water when you refill. most drain valves are on the side about a 1/2 to 1" above the bottom, I know mine is it is not on the bottom....

I was pleasantly surprised to find that my new one has about a 4" sqaure "sump" area that extends below the tank and through the belly pan. I can get all but about 8 oz. out of this one.

Thanks for the help. We feel better now, but it creates a new question about that much water in the tank over the winter. We are new to this and haven't been through the winterization process. I know there is a lot of great information on the forum so I guess I better look it all up...

There is plenty of room in the tank for freezing water to expand without breaking anything.
The water lines is where the issues are.
Using air and/or antifreeze for the lines is what must be done.

I leave the FW tank drain open. That way of moving around inside while winterizing causes some of the remaining water to go down the drain line it will not freeze. You can put an old sock of similar item over the end of you are worried about bugs getting in.

If you have an Atwood remove the plastic plug after you turn off the water and release the tank pressure.
If you have the Suburban remove the anode after turning off the water and
release the tank pressure.
