Error Code E1

Hi,

So I had gas leak check today. When the tech tried to turn on the furnace, he got E1 code. He tested everything and concluded that the control board in the AC was bad and a new one needed. He couldnt start the furn from the themo control. But he could manually. The total part and labor is around 300. Anyone has the same issue? And did it work with a new control board? Thanks!

I do believe that when I had a similar problem that cycling the furnace on and off reset it. Also try pulling the fuse for the furnace and reinstalling it to see if it clears.

Assuming that you have Dometic lcd thermostat, E1 means a communication error between the thermostat and the controls.

The first thing to try is unplugging and cleaning the cable at both ends. That works a good bit of the time, and it's a lot cheaper than replacing the control board.

I disconnected my Dometic controller and installed an old fashioned controller for my heater after the control board fried on the heater (Had to replace that as well). Heard of too many issues with the Dometic controller and heaters. My heater now works correctly every time I need it.

Did you also try initializing the thermostat?

Here's the instructions for it.

Quote:
"A system initialization will need to be performed by the installer after
the system is installed.
Make sure the Single Zone LCD thermostat is in the Off condition.
Press the “+” button and, while holding it, also press and hold the On/Off Mode button for three seconds. LCD will show ― ― .
Press the On/Off Mode button again to turn system off.
This completes the initialization."

Bummer! It could be the thermostat, the control board, the wiring; or any combination of the three. I think the first thing I'd try, would be to run a temporary wire between the t-stat and the control board and see if that works.

yeah I thought about running a new communication cable next. But I dont have one now. I need to run to Walmart to get one. Hopefully, that is it. If not, then I just go ahead to replace the circuit board and thermostat. Thanks!
