Eternabond application

If you have applied Eternabond (or the other stuff) around the bubble windows in your aframe camper.. what did you use to clean and prepare the surface for the tape application? How did you clean?

Did you apply with the roof panels up or down?

Any other tips, hints and or tricks would be appreciated, as well.

I have a 2014 a122s aframe.

My dealer had already sealed the windows with 3M Extreme Sealing Tape before my purchase.

I added the same tape around the vent fan.

I washed the area around the vent with Dawn dish washing liquid and then cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol.

I then applied 3M Extreme Sealing Tape.

In the year I owned the trailer the tape was doing its job well.

Some steps -

Roof up and in warm sunshine.

Wear safety gear: latex gloves, glasses, etc.

Remove old tape with a sharp scraper and some pulling.

Remove old tape caulk crud with a sharp scraper and alcohol based solvent.

Clean tape area with the alcohol based solvent.

Carefully apply 4" wide tape in same pattern as factory did.

Take your time.

Above are suggestions as a guideline, only, with no guarantee whatsoever.

Good luck, it works.

I was told to use acetone, and it worked very well. Not sure if it will damage the windows though. Eternabond also has their own surface prep, but I was told it is basically acetone in a spray can. I was also told to use a bead of lap sealant on the front of the seams so they won't tend to lift on the freeway. The way the stuff sticks I doubt this would be a problem, but I did it anyway. This may be more important for you though, since you would want the seams to overlap on the front half for rain shedding in such a way the seams will face into the wind when towing.

Soap and water then acetone. I laid the tape down when it was cool and was able to able to pull up and place again, when it got warm I rolled it. when it hits the surface when it is warm you are not going to pull it back off.

I tried the Eternabond cleaner the other day and it clouded the window edge, so I stopped using it. Instead we used soap and water and alcohol and it worked fine.
