Fall Camping in Colorado – A Frame - Photos

First stop, Great Sand Dunes National Park, Nice view from the camper.

Then West over Wolf Creek Pass on our way toward Mesa Verde National Park.

Just 30 miles short of Mesa Verde National Park , we stopped at Snow Slide National Forest Camp Ground. There is a stream behind us.

On to Mesa Verde National Park.

A little site-seeing.

After 2 nights, the park closed and we move up to McPhee Res. National Forest Camp Ground. As we were setting up camp, the Park Ranger came by and said they were closing the CG in 2 days at noon and if we could leave a couple hours early if would help him greatly, we did. He also told us that disbursed camping in the National Forest would still be open.

While at McPhee we ran down to 4 corners.

Up to Black Canyon of Gunnison National Park which was, of course, closed. The highway we were on does run right next to the north rim of the canyon, so we still came away with some beautiful views.

Continuing north - some color.

And more.

And more.

Near Somerset we found some dispersed camping in the National Forest.

While eating dinner, I looked out the window and there was a bear about 100 feet away in the woods. The camera was in the van. So no pictures. I know, if no pictures it did not happen.

Had a nice sleep and got up the next morning to this.

So, home to Denver.

Several years ago we stayed a Mesa Verde Np, we had an Aliner at the time. One morning I looked up out our rear window, the one above the bed, and told my wife that there were bear paw prints on our window. She thought I was joking till she got up and saw paw prints all over our truck.
