First week long trip in A122.

We are leaving tomorrow for our first long pull(11 hours) and week long trip with the A122, we are heading up to NH for the week to do some hiking in the White mountains. We have two hikes planned and the rest of the week will be some short fun hikes, we plan on doing the Franconia ridge hike and the Ammonsoosuc Ravine trail to the summit of Mt. Washington.
This will be a fun trip with the camper and we will be staying at the Dry River campground as our base camp for the week. I will post up a trip review when we get back!

I feel your excitement. DW and I will leave tomorrow on our vaction for two weeks to the Grand Canyon. We also will do some hiking in the canyon and sightseeing along the rim. Will put about 3,000 miles on our camper and will love every minute of it. I hope you and yours have a great time and always, drive safe and drive smart and of course, have fun.

Good deal...I'm guessing the temps will still be mild up in the mountains like that. Enjoy!

While you're there, ask if there isn't somethin' they can do about that terrible erosion problem they've got on their hands...

Do you have some more details? Do you mean at the campground or the area in general? They got hit hard last year with the storm that came through, but all of the roads and campsites have been rebuilt. Let me know and I will ask around while we are up there.

It was my off-beat sense of humor. I was referring to the canyon itself as the big erosion problem. Tongue was firmly in cheek at the time. You guys have a great trip, and I guess by the time you get home we'll be on our way to Alaska (where, by the way, they do have a big erosion problem--the road we'll be taking was washed out in two places a week ago. We've been assured it's fixed now).

Well we just got back today and we are beat, so I will make this kinda of short. The A122 towed fine and we averaged about 16.8 mpg with the 4Runner, which was pretty good considering the mountains and my driving.
The Dry River CG was great and was very clean with large sites and clean bathrooms, our site was private and large, the other site that I would recommend is #16. If anyone needs more info. on the CG let me know. I will say this, the roads in Conn. are in bad shape and poorly designed, if your headed through the Harford area be carefull and take your time.
We hiked to the summit of Mt. Washington, which took us about 9 hours, this was a pretty good hike, so if you are thinking about doing this, you should be in pretty good shape and have some experience hiking. The weather up top is no joke, so bring proper gear and clothing. We used the Ammonoosuc Ravine trail to ascend and came back down the Jewell trail (approx. 10miles).
I would highly recommend this trip and there is plenty to see and do in the area for a family. Like I said, I am bone tired and my eyes are getting heavy as I type this, but it's a good feeling and it was a cool week to spend time with my son.

Great pics and a good time...can't beat that! Which was harder, going up the mountain or coming down?

Going up was pretty hard, it took us almost 4 hours of non-stop climbing to get to the summit, it was a great leg workout. Coming down was rough on the knees and ankles, the trail is mostly rocks so your lower legs take a beating, we were a little sore the next day. The views up top are gorgeous and it was nice and cool.

That's my experience too; going up is hard enough, but coming down is he__ on the knees. They always want to quit before I do.
