Front Storage Compartment ?

I am still waiting for my new A122 SXR to arrive and was curious if anybody has modified the front storage compartment to achieve better organization or durability. I had the crazy idea of using a bedliner material to coat the inside of the compartment, this would be done after using a sealant to seal all of the gaps between the inner walls and floor.
I was thinking this would provide additional protection from stored items sliding around and general wear and tear.
I have heard of a few complaints that the lid seal can leak, which results in water damage to the floor. If I properly seal and coat the compartment it should prevent any water damage if the seal fails.

I was going to check and see if any local spray-on bedliner company would do this, or just do it myself. I have coated a few things in the past and know that proper prep is the key to making it look professional.

I would like to hear opinions on this, good or bad.

Sounds like a lot of work for a storage compartment and adding weight. When the dealer received my A frame it was raining and when I looked at it it had water in the compartment. They were not sure if it was open in the rain or not but adjusted the hinge on the lid and I have had it in the rain many times with no water in the compartment.

Check out the weight of the paint first. Other options might be plastic film for making shower pans. That at least would be removable. I put a platform in the trunk to hold my Bal Leveler and assorted tools such as as the torque wrench and breaker bar.

The shelf is a great idea. The weight of the bedliner coating is a concern and I will look into that. I think if I just did the bottom half it would be ok. I have first hand knowledge what water damage is like in a camper and it is not fun , if I can just do a little preventive maintenance it will give me peace of mind.

Just so you know, I have had my 194 Hw for 3 years and have never had a leak. I always clip the closures after using. If you decide to have bedliner sprayed on if weighs very little, but is un-needed. Enjoy the new camper! We sure do.

I just got good news that my camper will be delivered in approx. 2 weeks. Once I get the basic stuff cleaned up on the camper, I will look and see if I really want to do the bedliner coating. Thanks for all of the advice and info.!!

The only mod I made was to add a light. On its maiden voyage we didn't get in until dark, and it was a pain in the butt finding things in the storage trunk. I already had an RV porch light laying around, so I mounted it opposite of the light mounted to the front and tied into its wiring. Easy and free mod.

Now, make it convenient and add a micro switch to the door so it automatically turns on when the door is open and shuts it off when the door is closed. Did that to the 3 compartments on my 5er and it is nice.

Did I mention I had the light already laying around? Stop trying to make me spend money.

What switches did you use for your lights? I want to add lights in my storage compartments and want a good type of switch.

I have LED lights in my storage compartments with built in motion detectors. When the outside side door to the the under-seat compartment swings open, the light turns on. They run off 3AAA batteries but could be hard wired with a simple mod of a resistor.

Magnetic switches are quite cheap too and will handle the current required for LED lights. Only a few dollars if you have an electronics shop in town.

This is the motion sensing light I used.
