Glass Stove Top Hinges

Hi everyone,

Did a search and can't seem to find any solution. When I went to open her up for my last trip out (only 3rd trip since buying it), the nut and bolts for the hinges on the glass stove top cover had broken off. I didn't notice right away and when I went to open the cover, the rear hinges also broke off. My brother had the same issue on his Rockwood Fifth Wheel...any ideas? I can't seem to find anywhere to just replace the nut and bolt.

Back to the dealer, that's not right on a new rig.

It seems like a lot of people have this happen.

Can't you just replace with metal nuts and bolts?

Not likely, glass on metal and tight enough to hold would probably not work too well.

Loctite might help, or just stab the nut and thread where they meet with a hot screwdriver.

Since the center hinge on glass tops operates in the opposite direction from metal tops, it's not unlikely that someone has tried to open it by folding it the wrong way. Something has to give.

I have never used the stove, opened the glass cover once during my pdi and that's it. I have only been out 3 times, even if it was user error is it still not acceptable that the nuts would shear off after such a short time.

It worked!

I followed the advice of the experts here and tried the hot screwdriver solution and found that it works perfectly. I had one nut that come off completely and fell under the drip pan beneath the burners and another one that was ready to come off. I tightened all of the other bolts carefully then seared each with the hot screwdriver and let them cool. I could not loosen any after that.

You can source nylon nuts and bolts in a variety of head style and in black too, from McMaster-Carr. They're an industrial supply house, nationwide. Doubt that they will sell you 1 or 2, probably 10 or 25 pk, but if you know what you're looking at/for they'll have it. Don't know about the hinges, you may have to go to Suburban or your dealer

I used nylon licenses plate nuts and bolts that I got in a package at Walmart with a dab of locktite to keep them in place when I lost a bolt on my cook top.I think it cost me around a buck for three or four nut and bolts.
