Hammick were you able to cancel your purchase? You can buy a more powerful TV or a lighter ATV....or look at another style toy hauler? I originally looked at buying a Fleetwood Scorpipn, back in 2006...their rear gear decks carrying capacity is 1500 lbs (the S3 model) Not an A-frame, bit a defonite workhorse of a pop up trailer...I see them for sale every now and then...

Yes we didn't put any money down and Matt with Cheyenne RV is very easy to work with. He apologized for not knowing about the 650lb limit and cancelled the deal without issue.

We purchased a Grey Wolf 19rr from Outpost RV in Indiana (Cheyenne didn't have one and didn't have any coming in). We pick it up Saturday.

This Champion 2000 does not run the a/c for longer than 2 minutes before it pops the breaker....it does run the cool cat fan and the fantastic fan, the radio and lights at the same time....but fug gedda bowt the a/c it cant handle the load by itself. I chose to make do with fans as I dont care to carry a 100+ lb genny everytime I go out. This 2000 weighs 48 lbs and is pretty quiet, does what I'd expect for the wattage.

My Honda 2000 will not run my Cool Cat. It is ok on start-up, but, on the second re-start the generator overloads.

Man this is strange. Some people are able to run the Cool Cat without problems, some not... using the same generator.

Guess I'll just have to find out for myself.

Higher pressure at the compressor in restart, especially after only short periods of off time, will cause higher start loads in the compressor at 2nd startup.

The hard start capacitor would help with this and possibly prevent the overload.

Either way, you are right in the edge of capacity with the 2000 watt units.

Well I just received my Yamaha 2,000 watt generator. See this thread for details:
Link Here

I will see if it will run my 10,000 BTU Cool Cat when I pick up my trailer in a couple of weeks.

It was 107 here today. Fortunately, hot weather won't be here for a couple more weeks.

I receieved my generator and it is working fine. See LINK HERE.

There are a couple links I found that said guys were able to start their air conditioners when they switched to synthetic oil. It doesn't seem like it would make much difference but it's worth trying. I went ahead and put synthetic oil in my generator for a variety of reasons. The generator only uses about half a quart of oil in the engine so the cost difference in using the synthetic is probably less than $2 per oil change.

Another thing I read is that the generator engines put out a bit more power after they are broken in. Every little bit helps I suppose.

The verdict is in!

Well I picked up my A124 and tried using the Yamaha 2,000 watt generator to power the A/C. It would not do it initially. The dealer where I purchased it suggested I turn off the breakers in the trailer not associated with the A/C. I turned off the middle two breakers and the A/C worked on high and low. I also tried using the heater portion of the A/C slash Heat Pump and that worked as well. I think that the initial problem was when you plug into the generator, all the trailer's systems come on such as the converter and everything else and when the A/C initial surge comes on, it overloads the 2,000 watt generator. The only thing that didn't seem to work with the breakers off was the microwave and the carbon monoxide (C.O.) detector. They were completely de-powered. I have a secondary battery operated carbon monoxide detector so that part of it was not a problem. I will buy a third detector the next time I am at Wally World as I am really paranoid about C.O. poisoning. I have seen too many deaths associated with carbon monoxide. So the answer of will a 2,000 watt generator power the A/C? Yes it will with some qualifiers. Also, the generator will run the A/C in ECO mode... Darn! It might do it with that Dometic Smart Start device and I would be curious to see if it would. Maybe if my money tree starts growing better I can spring for one of the Smart Start units.

P.S.
I have also included a picture of my generator and its anti-theft device.
Truth is the german shepherd as spoiled as she is would be inside the trailer with the air conditioner running. I guess I could just let the dog out of the trailer if the A/C stopped running in the middle of the night.

...Four legs running beat two legs running everytime.

Anyone have a Hyundai Generator which is half the price of Yamaha and Honda? It looks like in the test the AC is 13500 BTU, this should be no issue for our Aframe:
I'm thinking of getting this for next summer.

That Hyundai is loud (65db at rated load, cannot find 1/4 load noise level). I wouldn't want to be camping next to it.

Honda 53 -59 dB.

Yamaha 51.5 - 61 dB.

Conversational speech @ 1M = 60 dB

Vacuum cleaner @ 1M = 70 dB

How did you connect your generator to the A124? We just bought a 2014 this past weekend and living in Arizona, A/C will most likely be needed at some point. Also, we're going to try the 2000w since a 3000w seems a bit excessive and heavy for an A-frame.

Imo a 2000 will barely run an a/c .
A 2000 only puts out approx. 16 amps

Most roof top a/c's require 18-20 amps to start and pull about 12-14 amps running.
Id hate to be running minimum voltage to my a/c

Cool cats are 9000 BTU Air cons. Unlike the 13,500 or 15,000 roof top AC units.

The Dometic manual has a general recommendation for a 2.8 KW generator to power a camper with a cool cat because other stuff will be in use. Unlike pop ups, you cannot easily separate the cool cat from the rest of the electrical system and plug straight to the generator.

I don't think there is added value in running the 2000w generator at its max capacity to barely run the AC.... And still requiring mods to the AC to do so.

If AC really is a requirement, and in some places it certainly is, then I would find it easy to justify the 3000 or 2x 2000 in series. Otherwise you're at your genny's max and also at the highest Db output of the genny.

It doesn't seem like an item to skimp on if AC is that important/essential.

And I would opt for the quietest one I could fine and afford. The construction grade ones I would have concern not just about noise but also continuous duty, weight, durability, etc.
