hauling a Rockwood Hardside

Hello,

Has anyone ever pulled a A-Frame with a 4cyl ford escape. We are just wondering if you could pull a aframe with it . I know it can handle the weight . Also we are looking for a screen room-canopy for the rockwood hardside. Any suggestions?

Depends on the A-Frame and the Engine size of the Ford Escape. I did a quick search, and a Escape with the Ecoboost is rated to tow 3,500 lbs (which in my book translates to no more than 3,000 Lbs)

Looking at the A-Frame specs, some are in the 3,300 area - right at the upper limit assuming you have a tow package on the Escape.

So, just looking at the base figures I would think you would be overweight (remember you have to take stuff with you to camp-- not to mention you, your partner and so forth -- that in itself can add another 1,000 lbs to the overall weight)

i don't think you can make the statement "I know it can handle the weight", without providing more info, like what year and engine size.

if it's NOT the Ecoboost 4cyl. engine, then it CAN'T handle the weight for even the smallest one. currently, Ford does not offer a factory tow package for the regular 4cyl. Escape and can only tow a max of 2000lbs., which isn't enough for even the A-122.

When we decided to start camping we found an A-frame we liked, the 124, and then found our Nissan Rogue could only tow 1000 pounds. We traded it in on a 4-cylindar Subaru Outback which is rated at 2750 pounds. The 124 is about 2000 pounds. So far we are happy.

We have a model 194 HW and tow with a 2013 Ford Escape. The TW is a 2.0 turbo and we had a better hitch installed than what you get from the factory. We have logged a lot of miles, including very hilly terrain and on wet slippery roads. Very impressed with the camper and the Escape! Good handling and very good gas mileage.

this all depends on how much you will use the camper.
in my estimation a 4 banger with any turbo options can pull this trailer, but your drive train will suffer bigtime, so be ready for rear end, turbo and transmission issues in the future.
most trailers are underrated for weight, and most vehicles are overrated for towing.
to have a happy medium ... you should be really be driving what is able to tow 5000 lbs, with a 400 hitch weight.

Agree with d-mo on this, 5000 & 400 tongue weight is a great target when considering tow vehicles for the a-frames.
