We dont camp in RV places, just State Parks where there is no shore power. Our A/C needs 2800

funny, we don't camp in RV places and almost always are dry camping, so no power.
but i can run the Dometic 13.5k a/c with our Honda 2000.
but we're rarely at altitude, though i did try it at Yellowstone and it did run it for a short time.

My Honda eu2000 runs my Cool Cat A/C without complaint - best to leave the ecoboost off. When running the A/C on the genny, I do not use the microwave or charge the batteries at the same time.

As for the genny, when running ac I leave ours Eco mode off. Sound like the genny was working at full power because battery charge was in bulk mode and probably pulling 7 amps on its own. The ac used the rest also probably going in and out of "surge" mode on genny. Also make sure your fridge is not on auto setting- leave on propane. And I would give it another try- should run ac no problem on your unit.

How do you make sure the charger of the TT does not kick in to charge its own battery while using the genny?

bikendan, when you said the 2000 ran your AC at altitude for a short time, do you mean it stopped working?

And Big Vic, when you say you don't charge the batteries while running the AC, are you referring to the on board battery? If so, how do you stop it from charging?

I'm headed out to the Nebraska sandhills in a couple weeks, and really want to have a generator that will run my AC. The Yamaha 2400 looks good, but I'd much rather have the lighter Honda 2000 if it will do the job. I have a 2014 with the Cool Cat.

I plan to rent a 2000 this week and try it out, but I'm only at 900 ft. If it works fine, I'm not sure that it will still work at 3500 ft.

No, I stopped it.
I didn't want it to strain a lot.
I just wanted to see if it could start it.
It wasn't hot enough to need a/c.

I believe that the 2000 will run a Cool Cat unit.

Thanks for the additional info!

I'll report back after I rent a 2000 and give it a try.

Short of pulling the fuse on the converter- none.

I try to have shorter but more runs- like an hour in the morning when making coffee, hour in the afternoon when using microwave and an hour sometime before bed so we can watch a movie. That way the charger/ genny is never really bogged down with load. The only time a 2000 is loud is when it has a large load so the other campers around me don't complain.

And if you haven't figured it out yet- I enjoy roughing it!

I switch off the 15 amp circuit breaker that feeds the converter. That stops any battery charging.

Installing a battery disconnect switch on the side of the battery box provides an easy way to isolate it form the camper too.
