How much off MSRP?

How good of a deal can/did you get? What's a good percentage to shot for?

Thanks

Carl

Anything below 25% of MSRP (including options) is a "good deal"

Depending on circumstances up to 35% off is not unheard of.

LOTS of things go into this number.

Obviously, Financing and Trade-in will effect the deal you get.

If you pay cash and have no trade, you can negotiate a much better overall deal than if you finance or have a trade in.

If you have a trade, you may get more for your trade in, but less off the new camper for example.

I got 38% off MSRP on my Tracer Air 252, 2014 left over. I didn't make any friends in the sales department, but they had this trailer for just over a year & I knew they wanted to move it.

I got 38% last year, not fairing as well making a deal on our next trailer with a trade in.

I have never seen an "official (from Forest River)" MSRP for the A-frames (I assume you are A-frame shopping since that is the forum you posted in). I have seen dealers claim an MSRP. I take that with a grain of salt.

When we were shopping for our A122, I compared the asking price on a 2013, and several internet prices that claimed to be good deals, and were certainly the lowest I could find. I found a local dealer in Denver (1 hour away) who offered a no-haggle price ablout $500 more than the lowest Internet price. I took it.

BTW, which LorStas did you serve at? I got to make the rounds of the Alaska units.

30% off is easy enough. If buying this time of the year some units have been setting around awhile. New models coming out. 40% off on a left over model year could be possible

Last year FR gave a $10,000 rebate after you got dealer as low as you could. I got in on that one.

Discount on New Rv's

I always want a minimum of 30% off. I start at a 35% off and let the dealer figure he got me when he settles at 30% off. Main thing is don't fall in love with the unit at first sight. Don't be afraid to walk away when they don't meet your offer. I guarantee they will be calling you, just stick to your guns and they will meet you. Last unit I bought listed at $104,900, they started at $87,900 and after a lot of no's by me we ended up settling at 69,900. This is when perseverance with them us on your side..

Most of those responding are talking travel trailer or 5th wheeler, which may/may not have a considerably different pricing model than an A-frame.

Last year when we were buying an A-frame, they were generally selling within 2 weeks of delivery to the dealer. The bottom price I could find anywhere for a new base A122 was just under $10K. And that was for an order to be filled in a few months in New England.

Two of the local dealers we checked with did not have any base models in stock, but would get us one in a few months for $14K. The dealer we bought from had one in stock that was already sold, and had another coming in 2 weeks that we could have for $10.5K. No deposit required, just our word after checking out the already sold one.

In 3 weeks we took delivery of our A122. Out the door price including sales tax, registration fees, and options (hitch installation and wiring on our minivan, Equalizer install, 2nd battery) was just under $13K.

IMHO, unless Forest River publishes an MSRP on the A-frame, MSRP is whatever the dealer says it is. As you can see from my example, what a dealer is willing to take can vary by as much as 40%.

What current prices are on 2015 or 2016 A-frames - I just don't know. We are pleased with the price we paid, the exemplary dealer service, and have thoroughly enjoyed our camper.

Prices are all over the place. I paid 21k for my trailer.6 months later they ranged from 18k in Indiana to 33k in Mesa Az. Also MSRP is a suggested price. Think there is a law about putting a "LIST" price on some things.

Like you say it is a good deal in comparison to the MSRP but a lot of people forget or don't realize that they are still making a good profit on these units.

If you are hard player for your money 35% is minimum, but you have to find out
real MSRP, with all standard equipment, because many dealers "mark up" MSRP with
standard equipment as options.
Before you take delivery, take your time and make a list of warranty issues.
Good luck, happy camper ....

20 percent is normal. As much as 30 percent on closeouts and last year models.

Make your deal what ever it is on tangible equipment ( the unit itself, installed options such as slideout covers etc) do not let the dealer add value to his deal with fluff like magic lifetime warranties, exterior washes or camping packages at somewhere you will never go. Put the money you save in an account earn interest and use it to pay for repairs, you will be ahead of the game ( with exception of FR 2nd yr warranty)

Thanks for the replies. I know around 25% is good in the MH would. Figured trailers would be about the same, 2015/2016 model years.
