How to turn off external speaker?

We have a Kenwood KDC-152 radio. Sales person said the speaker could be deactivated. Asked a tech guy at Camping World and he said dismissively to read our instructions - that there was a setting for it. Well, if there is, I can't find it.

It feels like being a bad neighbor to make neighbors listen to whatever we do - especially since we're inside with the door closed! We're ready to pull the speaker and snip a wire - except that it might be useful at some point. Any ideas?

You probably have A,B and C bottoms on the front facing of the radio. Depress them until you figure what speakers they control.

Try the left/right balance. One of them turns off the outside speaker.

I don't have that radio, but if there aren't A,B,C buttons on it, I would try the "Fade" function. I once had a trailer with a Jensen stereo in it ---- you could "Fade" to the outside or inside or mix the two.

As others suggested. Fade usually will control inside outside instead of front/back

I have the same Kenwood car type radio in my A Frame. The outside speaker is either controlled by the fader or balance control. My radio was wired wrong, where the balance controlled inside vs. outside and the fader controlled left and right. I switched the wires and all is well.

If I put my fader all the way to rear the outside speaker is only on; if I put the fader to front the two inside speakers are only on; or I can put it in between to run all speakers.

X3, try the fader . I upgraded to this exact stereo. I simply copied the way the original one was wired, and the fade function is how I switch the sound from outside to inside with both the old and new stereo...

I have paperwork for Kenwood KDC-152 which is installed in my Rockwood A122S. It reads:

"You can switch from inside speakers to outside speakers by accessing the stereo FUNCTION mode entered by pressing the volume knob. Press the volume knob again to select SETTINGS. Next, turn the volume knob to select BALANCE in the menu.
>BALANCE - Switches from inside speakers to outside speakers.
>FADER - Switches from front to rear inside speakers.
For complete instruction on how to access Balance and Fader Functions, refer to page #10 of the radio's owners manual."

I hope this helps and is correct info. Note: I have not had the opportunity to verify this info as my A122S is currently in the shop getting a roof actuator installed.

Balance is supposed to control stereo sound between two different sound tracks, left and right. Otherwise you are getting monotone rather than stereo, and you are only geting one sound track.

Fader is supposed to control front to rear for both tracks. The wiring above does not allow stereo sound in side the trailer, but puts the left track outside and the right track inside.

Have the same radio in my 2514G. It is wired horribly........you will have to go into the menus and find the balance control. The right channel is outside and the left channel is inside. The fade control adjusts between the 2 inside speakers. Why it was done this way is anybody's guess. You don't even have stereo inside the coach! I have been going to pull it out and rewire (very easy) so I have stereo inside and can use the fade control to go from inside/outside. There is only 1 speaker outside so you can only have 1 channel. So easy to have done it right at the factory.....lol

Sorry I'm slow getting back to thank folks for the responses, but we've been camping in the Canadian Rockies with spotty Internet.

I think that fader or balance are the way to go, but haven't figured out how to do that. I can find the fader and balance settings, but the choices are bizarre and don't show what the instructions do. I'm usually pretty good with electronics, but NOTHING on this radio is intuitive and the directions are a mystery.

Anyway, thanks for pointing me in the right direction and I'll keep plugging away at it as my sanity allows.
