We travel with our 19" LED/DVD combo TV "face" down on the bed. I position the TV's stand/leg slotted between the wall and mattress as a precaution. My theory is that it will secure the TV from sliding, in the event of a "slam on the brakes" type of a stop. Alas, DH thinks I am a little too cautious, but he lets me do my thing to keep the worrying down.

We don't do any off road/off the grid type camping. I'll leave those experiences to you younger more adventurous folk. This ole gal wants her conveniences, like a hot shower and electricity.
