Latching down when traveling.

I was wonder how tight everybody latches down their roof when in the collapsed position? Is there such a thing as too tight or too loose?

Just snug enough that it pulls down a bit. But certainly not tight.

latches are adjustable and top seats on foam rubber gasket/ I have mine tight enough to make them snap when I lock them/if they are to loose top may not seal they are adjustable and should be at least medium tight/what do others think o subject????

Just picked up our Flagstaff 2015 T12TST this past July 30, 2014. The dealer spoke very strongly "do not overly snug the hold downs for the roof". He said he just had a repair in, where the hold downs were really overly tightened. The owner went over a rough rail crossing and one of the hold downs pulled out the entire fiberglass area of that mounting on the side of the trailer. Something like 700 dollars in repairs. Impressed me..

Please tell me if anyone has had a problem with any of the latches on the aframe. We just purchased our little camper in May and when taking down in the rain in July we had trouble getting one of the latches to release. Since then it has gone from bad to worse. Now we cannot even get the same latch in the slot to set up the camper. Any suggestions, We are not looking forward to pulling the camper all the way back to the dealer....Thanks much..

In case you haven't tried this...

The latches are adjustable. The lower latch piece with the hook is on a screw and can be unscrewed to lengthen the reach until it will slot into the upper hook. Adjust so it closes firmly but doesn't pull down too tightly.

I did not make myself clear,,but thank you for your quick response..Our problem is with the latch on one of the walls...it is not on the wall that the door is one, but the other wall...we ended up taking the camper into the dealer/service department..We just could not get the wall latch to go into the slot..Thank you so much,,,I should have written more in my questions..We do love our aframe, but just want to be able to get the wall up..hehehe

and fixed it by tightening up the nut on the handle.

If it gets just a little loose, there is too much play.

I see, different latch.

I have had problems with those latches. Even the smallest twisting of the frame will mess with those. One problem stopped when I began latching the walls after leveling but before setting the stabilizers. Still sometimes I have to lean hard into the wall to get the latch in the slot. Sometimes even then, they do not go all the way up the slot but as long as they are secure, I don't worry. Hope you get your issue fixed soon.

After camping the first time in our new Flagstaff T12RB, I set the stabilizers after I erect the camper. Frame flexure can make latching difficult.

On setting the stabilizers, I just ensure good ground contact and avoid jacking the frame. Our camper (8 trips this year) is very stable when set-up this way.
