Most converters don't get up to 14.2V, which is the voltage you need to properly charge some (most?) true deep cycle batteries.

3-stage converters found in most newer trailers, have a "bulk charge mode" which kicks the voltage up to 14.4V for a period of time.

Yes. But, you need a compatible dimmer control for led type lights.

Sorry for the long time to reply. Just got back from a month long trip in the Aframe with DW to the north west.

These were the same base as I had Interior. I have not looked at the Exteral so do not know if the base is the same. I have the 2 part, 2 Bulb, light assy in my Aframe. And they were plug and play nothing else needed.

Take a small knife and slide it between the middle bar with the switches and the lens and turn the knife so the lens will slide about 1/8 inch and then you can lift the lens off.

LEDs run in a range of 10~30 volts DC. How hard they are 'driven' determines how bright they are and how long they last. (quote from LED Wholesalers tech)
I recommend staying away from the cheaper LEDs. I have a whole bag full of 'em. At least they didn't cost a lot!

I think my charging unit does get up to 14.2 volts.
I know that my solar charger get up to 14.2
I know when the trailer is connected to my truck. I am running 14 volts or more.
If you run 12 volt LEDs on 14 volts they are going to have a short bright life.

I have use the above and you can run these at 10 volts or 30 volts and the light output is the same, the reason is there is a voltage regulator on the board that set the voltage to the LED that is why these are not dimable.

I do not know if you are calling these cheap or not, but I have bought 14 of these and have not had a failure in the 4 years ( 4 have only been used for 1 year) that I have use them.

Residential dimmers that are LED compatible are still meant to operate on 120VAC. Unfortunately, the lighting circuit in an RV is 12VDC. That would require a special DC type dimmer.

As mentioned in other threads, I bought 20' of Led tape to run up and down the inside peak of the roof on drivers side, a micro dimmer switch that is wired inline to that, tapped into 12v used for the roof shutoff switch and added a lighted toggle in the bench front near the furnace ... All parts from ebay for a grand total of less that $15 delivered. At highest setting the inside is bright with indirect lighting, at it's lowest it casts a nice indirect glow like a sunset. We rarely use the ceiling lights now, the light is far better from the full length indirect.
