New A-126 Owners
Ok here we go......
We saw our first A-framed campers about three years ago at a campground in PA. Ever since then we wanted one. So last year we got our towing vehicle. A 2011 GMC Sierra 4x4 with a 4.8ltr engine and complete towing package. Looking to get all our "Ducks" in a row, we scoped out a 2012 A-126 listed in Ohio. Kept an eye on it for nearly 5 or so months. The craving got stronger so we were going to head out to Hershey for the RV show. Now with all our "Ducks" in a row, we started to think that perhaps we were going to settle for a camper less or too much for what we originally wanted.
After some descussions, we decided to just drive out to Ohio from NJ to get the camper we wanted. So we packed up the truck and headed out.
After some quick paperwork at the Sales office, we drove to the Service Center to pickup the camper. The staff went quickly through all the features in our new A-126.
Keep in mind I myself have never towed anything in my life so anxiety was running high at this point. We hitched it up and off we went.......camping!!!
We decided to stop at Friendship Village Campgrounds in Bedford PA. They were awesome. We got a pull through site.
The camper towed very easily.
After pulling in and eyeing up the level of the camper, I adjusted the 4 stablilizers, unhitched, and readjusted the stabilizers again. Up went the roof and sides, hooked the water, electric, cable, and ran the gray water to the sewer.
All that took nearly an hour. Since this was our maiden voyage....ever, we had thought we did pretty well. The "Mrs" organized the interior as I handled the exterior.
The bed, we folded it out and left it that way. We got a two inch topper and sleeping was comfortable. The fridge took nearly two hours after turning it on AC to get cool enough for storing food. We used the heat exchange once and it worked well. A bit noisy but, hey it's camping. The camper held the heat very well with the outside temps running in the mid 40's.
The microwave worked well, the Am/FM radio was really nice and the outside speaker, not the best in stereo perfection but, it was clear enough to enjoy when I decided to get out the "Air Guitar". The exterior bug light made sitting out under the stars cozy and we settled in to enjoy the evenings.
The attachable side mounting grill worked great and was very easy to use. The attachable side table was very handy as well.
Then along came Sunday morning. After our fill of coffee, we slowly motivated ourselves to begin packing up.
The A-126, not only setup easily and was taken down easily.
Observations: Towed easy, hitched up easy, all hookups were a breeze, set up simple, comfort was great. Used the water pump to drain out frest water tank until I realized there was a plug on the tank itself. We never had to use the AC & never used the hot water heater or furnace heater.
The cassette toilet worked fantastic and was great during the over night and early morning nature calls. After figuring out how it worked, the toilet cleaned up very easily and functioned fantastic.
After, we hit the highway. The GMC got just over 16MPG towing. Again the camper towed easily and finally backing up into the driveway took only 5 minutes for this first timer.
We are planning another outing for the last weekend in October and are stoked about it. The only concern is that while sitting in the driveway not hooked up to AC power, should we disconnect the battery.
Thus far we love the camper and plan many trip next year.
We are happy campers!!!!
