New Tow Vehicle
Traded in my 4Runner for this 2016 Tacoma. I`m still waiting on my brake controller harness, so no trips yet.
Old Rig.

I hope this link works. Yakima Outdoorsman 300 Compact. My kayak saddles and other Yakima gear will hook right up.

Nice looking, I'm sure you will get many years of great towing and camping.
My next tow vehicle will be a Tacoma. Is that the long (6 foot) bed model?

That is the exact truck I've been looking at. Down to the color, which is the same silver as my Tundra. I like the long bed because it can carry a bicycle with the front wheel on easily.
I have read that the long bed is not as good off road as the shorter versions of the truck. But I am not into true off road driving, beyond the occasional beach trip. I mostly want to get down soft forest service roads and across low water creek fords. So versatility is my prime goal and that suits nicely.

Good choice. We had a Taco for years and went to a 4Runner last year. The reviews for the new Tacoma have been outstanding. More horsepower, better mileage and as dependable as ever. Enjoy it.

Hello Sir, I see where you were towing a122 with 4runner. That is exactly what I am currently using (2004 4runner) to tow my a122 sesp. I am looking to get a tacoma soon. How has your experience been with the tacoma. I will be camping in NC moutains with some steep inclines. Thanks for your time.

ghule, this thread is over 4 years old. This member sold his A-frame back in 2018 and hasn't posted since 2018.
His 2018 Classified ad said this:
"Selling due to moving and down-sizing."
You might try sending a PM to him but he may no longer be on the Forum.

I can give you some insight since the OP is long gone. I tow an A214HW (which is bigger and heavier than the OP's rig) with a 2010 Tacoma Prerunner Double Cab, 5 ft bed. The A214HW is one inch taller than my Taco with 19 inch wheels when closed.
I also have a WDH from my previous trailer that I use. I don't really need it because of the Taco hitch rating but it provides anti-sway and I already owned it so why not.
I hardly know the trailer is back there. The Taco has the 6 Cylinder and it is rated for 6500 lbs (newer Taco's are rated for 6800 IIRC). The trailer tires are only rated for 75 mph MAX, not sustained speed so the safest sustained speed is only about 65 based on tire manufacturer's specifications. I usually drive between 60 and 65 and average about 17 mpg that way. The worst I've gotten is 15 mpg with a strong headwind or in high mountains. I've actually gotten 21 mpg in northern Utah which really surprises me; little wind in those mountain twisties so it was pleasant. I only get about 22 mpg on the highway when not towing so that is phenomenal.
We often travel from Dallas/Ft Worth area to Tacoma WA because our daughter lives there and it is definitely comfortable without any drama and gets great gas mileage. I highly recommend the Tacoma 6 cylinder for towing an A frame.
