Picking up my A122 on Saturday

Good Morning.

I am scheduled to pick up my A122 on Saturday. I live in CT and am picking it up in VT and will be spending the night at the dealer as they have a small area for trying out the campers on site.

I am planning on bringing my label maker and a notebook to take notes during the walk-through but was wondering since it is such a distance I likely would not have the opportunity outside the walk-through to have the dealer address anything if there is anything in particular that I should keep an eye out for during the walk through or the first night?

Also any suggestions on any nice accessories or new toys I should pick up would be appreciated. I have a Bal Leveler due to arrive tomorrow and also have a gift card to the dealers store with the purchase.

Congrats on your A122!

There can be a lot of information during the PDI depending on your experience but if you have any questions at all please be sure to ask! Check & test everything. A notebook is a good idea as well as using your smartphone for pictures or video for areas you are not familiar with. A notebook can be helpful in dotting down questions or keeping a list of items you need fixing or to buy.

Good luck and please do keep us updated.

Thanks, I do intend to test everything. I was more concerned about QC issues. It seemed like when these first came out there were some seal issues and such based on my research, but most of that has been resolved as the manufacturing line process matured. I am curious if there are still known weak spots that i should pay extra mind to during the walk.

Here is a PDI checklist from the forum's library. It is designed for larger campers, but most of the information is relevant to use little guys.

Forest River Forums - Downloads - PDI Checklist

You can also take video of the PDI (pre-delivery inspection) for future reference.

About all you can do is to make sure the seals are installed straight and not pinched during the set up and tear down. Even with that, the apex seal on mine came loose shortly after delivery. It took a few weeks for FR to spec and deliver a replacement seal, but once it was installed, the camper has been sound.

Our dealer suggested that we make a phone video of the walkthrough - it doesn't take all that long and then we would have a reference for later. We have not had any problems at all since we picked up and I've been checking it over carefully...

One question I had before I go. What size ball does the a122 use for towing?

I was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions on how to lube the door hinges? I have been playing with the camper in the driveway and have been surprised how squeeky the door has been and would love to get some oil or lube in the hinges.

Ours are silent at the moment, but a waterproof grease might work well. Just be sure that you wipe any excess with a rag so you don't get it on anything (like you!) in the event of contact with the hinge.

I've used white lithium spray grease in other, similar applications and it works quite well. It can be found in most automotive stores, or a hardware store if you still have one in your town. I suspect that the big box stores also would have this type of lubricant.

Thanks, I was going to do some spray silicone, but figured I would check to make sure if there was any recommended method. I wasn't sure how well the spray would work its way in.

I prefer spray silicone to grease or oil based lubricants. Use a small amount and work the hinge a few times while the propellent evaporates. As with other lubricants, guard against overspray on fabrics.

I used spray silicone and it worked. As with any lube you might have to reapply now and then.
