That's kind of the way I look at it. They make for quick troubleshooting, but definitely not a must have type of thing.

The little blue light is likely not out, it is out to inform you that polarity is incorrect.

Is there a manual or instructions that tell you the functions of the lights.

Most of the time LED's used for indicating AC power, use a full wave rectifier to convert the AC to DC so there's no flicker during the second side of the sine wave. If that's the case, then it won't matter if the hot or neutral are swapped it'll still light. Though it would make a lot of sense to use a half wave and let it also indicate reversed polarity.

Nope and as said they do not mean anything just a convenience. Never had one prior to all the new stuff just more junk to go wrong which it did. Move on and forget it. Later RJD

My power cord has two lights (50A) at the male end. One works; one doesn't. Mine don't indicate anything more useful than that there's power on the line. My hardwired PI EMS likes my power (no reversed polarity, no open neutral, no nothing odd) and one light still is out.

My little lights worked fine at home... for a long time... then one day they didn't work. They used to work at the campground now they don't. I don't think they indicate anything.

Only that there's power up to that point. The lights on the camper connection are notorious for getting wet and failing.
