Power Cord Light

I noticed today.. when I plugged my camper (2014 a122s) into shore power.. the male end (with the handle grip) that plugs into the power box, the little lights on that end didn't light up. Seems I remember a blue light on the handle. Anyone else have this happen?

At first I thought maybe I wasn't getting any power.. I tested by plugging a drill into the outside receptacle on the camper. The drill worked. If the camper was only running on battery.. i don't think those outside plugs work.

Can those little lights on the cord head/handle burn out?

Probably similar to most drop cords nowadays. Most of them light up, some on both ends, but at some point a lot of them burn out. Its a handy feature when it works though...

Yep, agree. Those little lights burn out fairly quick.

Never had a RV power cord with the lights, but there have been many reports of those lights failing. I personally wouldn't worry about them.

I look at it as more of a gimmick than an actual benefit. But to each their own.

Like others, mine failed pretty quickly. I don't miss it.

Not sure when mine burned out on the last camper, but it wasn't very long after I bought it. My brand new one has been at the house about two months and I noticed a few days ago it's gone too.

The Furion power cord has two lights (50A) at the male end and they still work. My last 30A Furion cord lasted about two years before the male end light burned out.

Oh well, if the EMS doesn't show power, it just means I've got to pull out the meter and start troubleshooting.

We all survived for the last 75 years without these LEDs, so I think you're good.

That's kind of the way I look at it. They make for quick troubleshooting, but definitely not a must have type of thing.

The little blue light is likely not out, it is out to inform you that polarity is incorrect.

Is there a manual or instructions that tell you the functions of the lights.

Most of the time LED's used for indicating AC power, use a full wave rectifier to convert the AC to DC so there's no flicker during the second side of the sine wave. If that's the case, then it won't matter if the hot or neutral are swapped it'll still light. Though it would make a lot of sense to use a half wave and let it also indicate reversed polarity.

Nope and as said they do not mean anything just a convenience. Never had one prior to all the new stuff just more junk to go wrong which it did. Move on and forget it. Later RJD

My power cord has two lights (50A) at the male end. One works; one doesn't. Mine don't indicate anything more useful than that there's power on the line. My hardwired PI EMS likes my power (no reversed polarity, no open neutral, no nothing odd) and one light still is out.

My little lights worked fine at home... for a long time... then one day they didn't work. They used to work at the campground now they don't. I don't think they indicate anything.

Only that there's power up to that point. The lights on the camper connection are notorious for getting wet and failing.
