Refrigerator on propane when towing...blowing out

Not looking to start a debate on safety concerns or what is better 12V vs propane, but looking for tips to keep the refrigerator lit while towing. My old Norcold in my truck camper never had a problem blowing out. The Dometic in my new A122SXR and the Starcraft 1701 blow out while traveling. Has anyone added some sort of wind deflector around the pilot light?

There is no pilot light, so no need to worry!
If by chance it does blow out it'll re light!

I've traveled 5 hours and mine is lit when I get there!

Turbs, I'm guessing he has 3 way fridge. The propane stays on all the time with this type of fridge. When I traveled with popup I would run it off 12V while traveling and then switch to propane if I was stopping for more than an hour or so. I have heard of people putting small baffles in, it all depends where you thing the wind is coming in to blow it out.

Now that's entirely possible!
I always forget about that silly 3 way.[emoji12]

Sorry...I should have clarified. It is a 3-way and I know there is not a pilot light, it is either lit or not. I traveled from Denver to Moab this past weekend and switched over to 12 volt after realizing that it blew out after about 2 hours into the trip. Looking for suggestions on where to put a baffle.

Contact Dometic, they will send you a baffle kit at least they did for me. I have heard that some owners had to take their RV to an authorized dealer for install. Not sure what the policy is now but when I owned my Apex 189FBS the pilot light would blow out. It would reignite but the temp in the refer would rise. They sent me a baffle kit. Give em a try...

I was about to suggest that the burner might need cleaning, but you have a new camper. The only thing I could think of for a temporarily fix is to tape the small window cover so it will stay closed while in motion.

Thanks for the feedback. I ordered RV Refrigerator Air Foil Baffle Kit (RV Refrigerator Air Foil Baffle Kit - $18.95). I will report back after my next camping trip.

Check for dirt daubers or other critters in tub leading to heat exchanger. I had this problem twice.

I have the same problem. I just check each time I stop ( hand on top vent, can feel heat) when doing the walk around and just relight if out. I don't like using 12v as I would forget to switch over at the camp ground and have a dead battery that night.

Isn't it dangerous, maybe illegal to travel with propane bottles open? What happens if there is an accident and open gas lines are venting? Bye bye RV and people around?

Propane tanks will shut off immediately if a line breaks and to my knowledge it is not illegal to travel with the refrigerator on except in some tunnels in the northeast. Some folks turn them off while fueling, but I don't and never have.

I had that problem years ago with one of my rigs . The wind was blowing out the pilot light. If you have spark ing. It's probably blowing right on the spark when trying to light.

Besides tunnels, the only other place I know of that you can't leave propane on is while you are on a ferry boat. ( and I mean the one that floats on water!)

I always thought you weren't allowed in any tunnel with propane tanks on or off. Please advise?

What about propane trucks and cars that run on propane, motor homes, etc.?

We just bought a new TT. During our inspection I asked the RV tec about leaving the fridge on propane while travelling because I'd read here that some people do it. He said it's illegal to leave the propane on while travelling. We're in Ontario. Different laws in the states?

Evidently. I guess I was illegal when we went to the Bay of Fundy, no one told me about it and we had the frig for the week we were there. Will know better next time if we return to Canada.
