Removable tables in A-frames

Has anyone found a good source for the removable tables for the A-frames? The dealer quoted over $50 for a single removable table, and I am really hoping that these tables can be found for less.

If anyone has information, please share!!!!

You might consider going to a much lighter table and cutting wooden slats for bed use.

What I did was take an old kitchen cabinet and put a drawer under and made a little table to go on top of it. Because I had most of the things that I needed to make this it cost me very little, less than 5 dollars. I mounted it with 4 drywall screws......so far it works great.

Hi Debbie - Are you talking about this removeable table? I cant see paying more than 50- for something this simple...it may be less expensive if you make yourself - youd just need to find the hardware (prob online, if cant be found locally)

The removable dining table, that came with our aframe, is terribly heavy and pretty awkward. We never use it and do not pack it along anymore. If it's in-climate weather and we need eat inside our aframe, we use folding TV trays. I'm liking daveinpickerington's table in his vid. It looks like it would be a great choice for us too!

We are even considering alternates to the hang on tables as well, because of their weight and the material they are made of. It's a hassle to remove them each night in fear of dew or rain ruining them. I thought about using a staple gun to attach plastic table cloth material over the top, but that would get ratty over time...So, with using the hardware in mind, I want to dream up different table top material alternatives. We just haven't had time to implement any ideas for this project yet, let alone go camping...darn work gets in the way of all our fun!

Yes, Tamara, that's the one. We actually like having that as opposed to the larger dinette table. And, as Deb mentioned, we are actually considering leaving the dinette table home when we go out.

Deb - I like the idea of using TV trays...hmmm...I'll need to mull that one over in my brain and see what the DH thinks too!!! Good idea on using a different material - maybe a thick plastic cutting board with the rails attached? Gosh...that may be my answer as well!!!

The draw back to using the light weight (old fashioned metal) type of TV tray is it wiggles when you cut your food. The wood ones are better in that regard, but again they have a little more weight, but not as bad as the original table.

Yes the plastic cutting board, or something along those lines, sounds promising for the hang on table tops. hummm...

We use a Wal-Mart folding table inside and out. One of the first things I did was remove the mount from bottom of the table and also in the floor. We slide the modified table under a seat cushion when not in use for the bed. We also don't trip over the factory table's floor mount. I used the table and floor mounts to add a grill table in the pontoon boat. My next door neighbor is a cabinet maker and gave us a large piece of solid surface countertop that was from a kitchen sink cutout. These sink cutouts are waste and a cabinet place will give you one. They make great sag proof , burn proof, and great looking, table.

Remade the inside table out of plywood at a shorter width and use a matching board to fill the space if we need it as a bed. Got rid of folding legs in favor of pedestal for lighter weight and more legroom.

Outside table, salvaged hardware, bought nice bamboo cutting board at home goods in sale and attached j-hook hardware to that, much more durable, attractive and will hold up to getting wet.

Try Rockler Woodworking and Hardware it is amazing what they have. They are on-line @ www.rockler.com but their catalog is easier to use.

I'm really getting tired of the table myself - it's just so heavy and wobbly and a pain to set up/take down in the cramped space.

Unfortunately, I haven't come up with a clean solution yet that would still convert to a bed if we have need. I'm not good with woodworking, and anything I come up with that I feel comfortable doing eliminates the bed option or is equally cumbersome.

We have the a126 and don't have the bed issues in the front part of the camper.

We left the table at home on this past weekends trip. I can't say that I missed it. It was nice to have more room to move around. No table in the way of the drawers or toilet. More floor space for the duffel bag and a few misc items.

We might put the table in the shed along with the small tables that we never use on the back side of the sink and microwave counter.

I am looking at the mods for the outside table to go by the grill. A weather resistant option would be nice.
