Removed Microwave

I don't really have a need for a microwave, so I removed it for more storage. I keep my dry food and and other items there and added a cargo net to keep items from shifting while traveling. Cargo net is easily removed and stowed when camp is set up.

This is the net I ordered. Fits great and the J-hooks fit in the existing screw holes for the microwave.

My oven for heating burritos and such up since I don't have a microwave!

Thumbs up Good thinking

Yeah, I've been mulling over doing the same thing. Been thinking about building drawers or installing a cabinet door. Your solution gives me another idea that I had not thought about. Did you do anything to close off the space in the back so that the wires don't get fangled up with what you store in there?

I did end up moving the wire for the light switch under the cabinet as it would have been in the way. I used some zip ties to tidy things up and have not had any problems.

Thanks. I guess that I haven't thought harder about doing something about it yet is because I haven't figured out where to store the removed microwave!

I have become addicted to my microwave. I find them so convenient. I would miss it.

But I do agree. It does take up a nice size storage area.

I pulled the door under the sink on my A122SXR off to see what it would look like and it matched up nicely. I contacted Forest River directly about ordering the door but then decided to go with the cargo net.

We removed the microwave and lined the inside with paneling to avoid getting tangled up with all the wiring that was in that space. I bought a stock cabinet door from Home Depot and stained it to match the other cabinetry. Sorry no picture right now. No cutting or trimming of the cabinet door was necessary.

I removed the microwave and put it in the storage area under seat in rear of trailer on street side. I can easily take it out when needed and rest it on the counter.

Forest River parts has stock doors available. On my A128S, the door that is under the sink is a perfect match for the microwave area. It can be mounted so that it either opens vertically or horizontally:

Part # 10-19552A – cabinet door
Color – oxford cherry
Measures – 22 ¾” W x 15 “ H
Cost $ 38.50 each

Or

Part # 10-19548A – cabinet door
Color – oxford cherry
Measures – 15” W x 22 ¾ “ H
Cost $ 35.58 each

I pulled mine out and put a milk crate with dishes and pans in its place. It's held in position by a couple of refrigerator tension rods so it doesn't beat on the wiring or come out onto the floor while towing.

I put three pieces of scrap wood about .5 x .5 inches vary in length to keep my tupper ware in place and that works pretty well also. Plus I hook up a surge protected extension cord to the 30 amp outlet so I can get more 110 if I need to so far haven't needed to

I'm thinking of doing the same thing, going to see if I use it at all this season and of not take it out for next year. Has anyone missed it?

We often use it when we have hook-ups. But we are weekend campers, 3-4 days max, with just 2 of us. We usually spend much of the day away from the campsite, so the microwave (when we have electric) gets used for cooking or warming up leftovers when we are too tired or too late to cook a full meal at night.

Also, being weekend campers, we keep our "stuff" to the minimum, and have enough storage space without removing the microwave.

But I have nothing against those who remove the microwave. We choose to leave the porta-potti and the RV-que at home because we never use them.

Removed Microwave

Biscuit72: Funny, before we got the generator yesterday, we would store those same items in our microwave! Now, we must store them elsewhere since will be using the microwave more often.
