Review of Swagman XP Towing Bike Rack

Swagman XP Towing Rack - Folding 3 Bike Rack for 2" Trailer Hitches Swagman Hitch Bike Racks S64955

We recently purchased the Swagman XP in order to safely transport bikes with our Rockwood A122. As most of you are aware, the choices are limited. The three basic options are the slip on, clamp on and the type where the bikes ride on top of the A Frame. We decided to go with the slip on style thinking it would be the sturdiest.
The unit is definitely sturdy and very well built. No chance of it vibrating or coming loose if properly installed.
PROs
Very sturdy and well built. Top notch construction.
Lockable, includes locking end clamp.
Adjustable cradles. A big plus for women’s model and certain mountain bikes. Bikes ride level.
With extended hitch ball mount, the bikes don’t come close to hitting the LP tanks. Even in tighter turns.
CONs
Price, $180.
It adds substantial tongue weight. Not a light weight unit.
Need to purchase an extended hitch ball mount. Extra cost.

All in all we found the unit to meet our expectation and would highly recommend it. We only have two bikes, so one of the cradles was removed, giving us further clearance from the LP tanks. As reference, our tow vehicle is a Tacoma SR5 V6.

I personally like the platform type bike rack and have one like the one in the attached link. It does not put stress on the frame by putting all the weight on the cross bar. This rack is intended to hitch to either a 1 1/4" or 2" receiver. Have traveled thousands of miles with this rack and really like it.
