Roof assist

Has anyone added roof assist to a Forest River 2015 A122s. Being short and not very strong makes it very difficult.

I carry a step stool with me for sitting and standing on and I use it to help me lift the top. And it helps if you have some else to push up on the other handle to start your lift. I have noticed it seems to be getting heaver the longer I own it! Might be my age tho. smile

Thanks for the reply. I also use a small ladder. Wouldn't be able to raise the roof without. I notice the new A122s have a pneumatic assist. Forest River must have had complaints.

Your not alone in that and I don't think it is just age. I am tall enough to lift it and make use of my legs instead of the arms for strength. But it has gotten harder. I think the lift springs at the hinge loose some umph over time.

Yes they do especially if your store the unit in the down position.

I had a "roof actuator" installed by a local Forest River dealer who was able to order the parts for a cheaper price than the one quoted to me. Here's the parts that were needed:

Part # 10-22535A – actuator set for HS power lift – this system includes the
Actuator & brackets ( POWERED )
Part # 10-21448A – switch for powered lift for HS

So, to lift the roof now all I need to do is make sure both sides are unlatched and then press the button to lift the roof. However, I need to make sure that the roof is fully lifted or else it's difficult to secure the interior side latches. I also had a battery disconnect installed. The total price for all of the work and parts was $900+. See the attached photo of the part on a unit sent to me by a Forest River rep.

I'm having a very difficult time posting any photos! If you send your private email address to me via my Forest River profile, I'll send close-ups of the actuator that's installed on my unit.

Important info about installation: the directions that came with the actuator needed to be adjusted for my unit. The measurements did not work out and the bottom of the actuator had to be installed at a lower point than where the directions indicated. Make sure whoever installs the actuator on your unit extends the actuator and the roof and marks where it needs to be attached BEFORE they drill any holes in your camper!
