Small Leak-Question About 3M Tape

Set the camper up this morning to clean and wash it after using it yesterday. Yesterday morning it rained pretty hard at campground.

While cleaning inside I found a small leak at the bottom of the large dome window. The piece of cloth that goes from side to side and is velcrod on to the wall to cover the hinge was wet in the center of the window and the wall still had drops of water on it.

Dried it off and put the piece of cloth in dryer and dryed it and put it back on. Checked window but couldn't find where the sealant had pulled loose. Took the water hose and ran water down the top of the window and all along the sides and bottom. Sure enough the inside was wet again in the same place.

So I'm going to order the 3M Sealant Tape and seal it myself. Wife wants to take it back to dealer since it's under warranty but I'm not leaving it there for a couple of months until they can get to it. It's camping season and I plan on using it.

Is this the tape that ya'll use:

Well, my 18yds of 3M tape came in today...I guess I know what I'll be doing Monday weather permitting. Gotta get a roller. Hopefully I can do a nice neat job by taking my time.

Is it really that bad at some dealers? I had mine in for a leak in the bathroom vent. Forest river wouldn't pay for it under warranty because it's considered wear and tear. The dealer kept it a week and only charged me $10 for dicor. Then I had a leak in one of the tent end seals (shamrock 19 hybrid). They had it for a little over a week and ended up putting two different seals on it after the first didn't work. This forest river did cover. The dealer is Keystone RV in Greencastle, Pa.

Actually I never contacted my dealer about this. Toppers, where I purchased my aframe, has a great reputation. But I didn't want to have to drive all the way down hwy 290 with all the construction plus this is something I can do myself probably as good as they can do.

I have a 3 day camping trip scheduled toward the end of the month and I didn't want to miss that not knowing how long it would take for them to get to my camper.

I climbed on top of the camper the other day and checked all the windows. There is only one spot on the large dome window where if I push down on the edge of the window in one spot a bit of water comes out so I'm assuming the caulking shrunk a bit. I'll check again tomorrow and make sure it's all dried out....prep the windows and do the tapeing.
