Spare wheel lug nuts

I went out the my camper today to get the wheels off so I can put new tires on them. I had bought a socket for the lug nuts on the wheels, but the lug nuts on the spare are not the same size. The lug nuts on my spare wheel are 13/16.

It would have really sucked finding that out on the side of the road without the correct socket.

That's crazy. I imagine the dealer installs the spares. I know when we looked at ours before we bought it the dealer said it still had the factory shipment rims and tires on it. Maybe they added the spare later once they had it sold and just put different lugs on.

I actually checked the spare lugs on ours when preparing for our 1st big trip as an afterthought while checking the tire PSI.

One more thing to put on the PDI list.

I verified the wrench for my truck fits the lug nuts of my trailers.
I also carry a 1/2" socket set with sockets up to 1 1/4" and a 1/2" torque wench in my truck just in case. It came in handy when replacing the anode in the water heater.

My lug nuts on trailer are 13/16. Spare is 3/4 from factory.

I bought an aftermarket tire mount and those nuts were 3/4 inch.

I bring so many sockets ( and other tools ) when we travel, I could probably build ( or disassemble ) a suspension bridge. No worries.

to see if you can actually loosen a nut.

You can add a piece of pipe to assist, if needed.

I had the same size lugs, but when I put my spare on I realized the plain spare steel wheel was different from the aluminum sport wheels I have on the camper. And the lug nuts on the camper wouldn’t tighten down far enough on the spare wheel. So that’s worth checking at home too before you get out there.

My SunSeeker has 22mm nuts and I have a 3 foot long breaker bar, no problem!

Don't buy or carry another size socket,just change the 2 or 3 oddball nuts on the spare!

I carry a battery impact wrench and a set of impact sockets also a bottle Jack for the C and a floor Jack for the trailer/towd!

Standard equipment in all my wheeled vehicles is a good old-fashioned 4-Way lug wrench. You can get a two handed grip on one and there's less chance of it slipping off often resulting in skinned knuckles or even broken bones in one's hand. I usually buy the one with the longest "Handles" so I get good torque.

I've seen these used in some tire stores to remove lug nuts that an impact wrench won't break loose.

FWIW, you always have the right sized socket and don't have to go rummage through the tool box after the first socket doesn't work. No need to start the generator, find an extension cord and the 4-Way doesn't need a fully charged battery.
