Suggestions anyone

My wife and I are planning a trip somewhere near the North Carolina , Tennessee and Virginia borders. Leaving September 17th staying around a week. Any suggestions would greatly help in our planning. There are so many campgrounds to choose from , and I've never been to this area before. We have no kids, and would prefer to stay away from the "attraction" campgrounds. Water and electric are a must and cable would be nice but not a deal breaker. Thanks

Try some C.O.E. parks along the Blue Ridge parkway. We stayed in a real nice C.O.E. park called Lake POWHATAN right out side of ASHEVILLE N.C. These are inexpensive and offer everything from water/electric sites to a several full hook-up sites.

I can scratch one off the list, Warriors Path State Park TN. Not impressed by the CG, it has a very dated layout of sites. Employees not very welcoming, kind of shameful because the rest of the park looks great.

Mayberry Campground in mount airy is nice. We used it for the NC FROG Rally this past memorial day. The staff bent over backwards to help us out. Mount Airy is a great town to visit with Andy Griffith memorabilia, a nice distillery with a really good tour, and pilot mountain nearby. In Virginia, misty mountain campground was a nice relaxing campground near the blue ridge parkway entrance. Not too far from Monticello, lots of winery and distillery tours as well.

I would agree with Jim about Lake Powhatan, close to Ashville and Biltmore. For some peace and quiet, check out Stone Mountain State Park, NC just off the Parkway

I'll second Stone Mountain SC. Stayed there this spring. Great hiking right from the campground.

Good questions!

Only advise is to find out what the total cost is, as some campgrounds have "hidden costs" that you don't become aware of until you are actually checking out!

Have a great trip!

In North Carolina there's a little town called Bryson City in the middle of the Appalachian mountains just outside of town there is a campground called Deep Creek campground awesome that's all I got to say if you want take a short drive go on over to Maggie Valley you'll find a museum about motorcycles called wheels through time. if you have time go to Cherokee they have quite the little town and lots to do there. Also in Bryson city you can catch the train that's called the smoky Mountain Railroad it's also awesome. In Cherokee there's a campground that we stayed at back in 2001 that is totally awesome it's called Indian Creek Campground check it out.

We stayed at Mama Gertie's in Asheville NC.
Super nice place with great sites. No pool, not much for kids so nice and quiet.
Steep incline getting in but once there, you won't want to leave.

So we are honing in on the Bryson city area and maybe north towards Grayson highlands in VA. So please keep them coming, I've looked at every campground y'all have suggested. So now that I've narrowed the search a little I can even get better ideas. Btw, anyone ever stayed at the latter?

In Bryson City, if you don't need a lot of amenities, chekc out Big Bears RV park. It is directly across from Deep Creek and a lot cheaper. They have nice large shaded spaces with full hookup 30 and 50 amp but no bath house or anything for the kids with the exception of horses next door. Both this and Deep Creek Tubing Center Campground are only a couple of miles from downtown Bryson City.

If you stay at either one be sure to check out the "Road to Nowhere"
