Suggestions for Television Type & Placement

The last time I went out in my camper, I would have liked to watch TV in the Aframe (A124). Sometimes it's good to watch a little TV before I go to bed to relax a little bit. I had thought about getting a small flat screen TV. I had also considered getting a cheap laptop so I would be able to watch a DVD, do Internet and maybe getting a TV card to plug into it. I have a amplified, rotary camper antenna I could use.

Just wondering if anybody has a direction they could point me in or tell me what has worked best for you.

We bought two 19inc TV's on Black friday. Just mounted them in our TT. They are digital and with the power antenna pick up many great signals and are big enough for exactly what you mention.

With cable pretty regular at nearly most campgrounds, we got a small 19in flatscreen TV. We're gonna look into a cheap DVD player for movies on those snuggly rainy days. We do enjoy just a bit of TV in the evenings but, not necessary before bed. I'm unsually up and fishing or hiking in the mornings but, again it is nice to catch up news and such.

I think this all is a matter of where you camp. We have a tendency to camp both off the grid, and if we are 120 up ... we are still out of the way of most signals in Canada, and some in the USA. We use a laptop .. with "boxee" software ... which converts any internet file to a playable video file. Being that we dont like to keep up with the news or that .... we find that this option works best for us.
I'm not a big fan of TV anyways ... only if the show has stubstance .. no addverts and can be reactivated at the exact same place you left off.

We use a 22'' TV/DVD combo and just place it on the counter above the microwave, I store it in a large rubber-maid container. We bought a cheapie in case anything would happen to it.

For compactness and versatility, you can't beat a laptop. Another advantage is the ability to rip DVDs onto a hard drive so you don't even need to bring the disks along. They are less fragile and more portable than a TV and DVD. Laptops work from a 12V outlet with the proper supply. The downside is they have smaller screens and cost more. I have not used a usb tuner card on my laptop but they are not too expensive. The other thing for movies is an Android tablet. Again it is relatively small but will hold several ripped movies as well as access the internet.

Largely it depends on how friendly you and computers are. If the extra fuss of dealing with Windows 8 on a laptop and ripping DVDs is not your thing, then skip it and go with a small TV, perhaps with a DVD built in.

I have an older Vizio 22" that I sit on the microwave cabinet. Mine is a 12V that uses a wall wart ac adapter.

We have a Sharp Acquos 19" LCD TV with built-in DVD player. Built-in DVD players are a great space saving idea. I don't think our particular model is available anymore. Has a PC input as well.

I have a small 19" I bought on clearance. Works ok but signal can be sporadic at times in some campgrounds. Also keep in a plastic tub for transport and storage. Sometimes can be a pain bringing it along but I do like my news. Good Luck.

I bought a 24" Toshiba with DVD. Wife said it was too big (not the only time I have heard that). We put it on the microwave cabinet the first time out but it was in the way. Plan on using the Thule Smart TV mount and putting it to the right of the window on the door side.



I also have some of the other Thule Smart RV stuff (Garbage cans and hooks) so I will probably put another anchor pod outside so we can also mount it outside.

I have a 19" LED dvd combo tv by Insignia (Best Buy) and place it on microwave counter...what did you end up getting?

Rkuffler - did the Thule system work inside your trailer?

32" Sony led in living room, 24" insignia in master bedroom, 26" Jensen in bunks room.
The 32" Sony also goes outside for relaxing TV time.

handbuilder - Yes it did work inside. Put one by the bed and another by the dinette. And then another outside above the small table by the door. Works awesome.
