Suspension upgrade on A215HW?
We've come to realize that some of our most relaxing camping is to be found off the beaten trail on BLM and NFS lands. But too many times the roads that lead to those spots are not particularly friendly to our trailer's low ground clearance (compared to our 4x4 tow vehicle). So I've been looking into a Dexter lift kit that would add another couple of inches of clearance. It looks pretty straight forward, in fact.
But, as long as I'm looking at a lift kit, I'm wondering if adding a heftier Torflex axle might not be a bad idea. One of the limitations of dry camping on those kinds of public lands is water. Some designated campgrounds have it, but most of the dispersed camping does not. A heftier axle would allow us to take along more water without overtaxing the trailer's suspension. Or so my thinking goes.
Rockwood does have their Extreme Sports line, which has a heftier and lifted suspension, so it would appear that might be indicative of the feasibility of a retrofit/upgrade. (It also has larger wheels and tires, pushing the clearance up another inch or two.)
Am I missing something that puts a stop to the whole concept? I know it's not something most people would consider, but for us, it has a lot of appeal.
