I currently have Carlisles on my a124 and have not had any complaints so far. How have your Carlisles held up and how many miles do you have on them? Why not replace with the same Carlisle radials? I believe the current Carlisle radials are an improved version of the older ones. Speed rating on the new ones are 81 mph. Tires in this size are somewhat limited and most are limited to 65 mph.

I went to steel rims with new tires -

ebay -

175/80R13 LRD 8 PR RN Radial Trailer Tire on 13" 5 Lug White Spoke Wheel

I got rid of the aluminum rims that looked great, but required 90+ lbs of torque. That kind of torque needs to be experienced to be realized.

Bottom line is that any new tire with proper specs/inflation is better than a worn/aged tire.

AFAIK, Carlisle and Load Star are the only two brands available. I replaced the original Loadstar tires with Carlisle about a year ago and would do so again. One Loadstar failed pretty early on due to a blister in the sidewall. The other failed over time but it may have been age related rather than a quality issue. Just make sure you get load range D as these are an uncommon tire in the wheel size for our campers.

Maxxis M8008 ST tires have proven to be one of the most dependable and safest ST tire on the market. They’ve been around a while. If your local tire store doesn’t offer them, tell them to order them from his distributor. Be sure your new tires are balanced.

I replaced mine recently with the new Goodyear Endurance tire, Made in USA. I looked at Maxxis but didn't want another made in China tire, I would rather keep USA workers working.

Maxxis is made in Thailand, No thanks. My Goodyears were only two months old on the tire date stamp, the Maxxis the tire store had was 18 months old, salesman said they don't see them much newer than that.

Your Endurance tires were just started being made this year. No thanks until they have a track record. Maxxis has a proven track record. Once they have been out 3 or 4 years I may consider them. I don't want to be Goodyear's Beta tester.

The Maxxis tires I put on my boat trailer were withing 4 months of manufacture date.

Just bought 5 tires through Tires Direct mail order and they were only a few months old too

My opinion is we would have heard of a failure here as everyone one interested is watching like a hawk. Go Goodyear for stepping up to the plate and building ST tires. Cooper wouldn’t do it.

They have been building ST tires. The Marathons suck.

Tire Replacement

Everyone will have a opinion and hopefully Goodyear’s do work out in the long run.

I am running m8008 maxxis as do a lot of people and they are a good tire. Before Goodyear endurance they were one of the few tires that people would recommend.

In all reality everyone has the potential to make crap doesn’t matter if it’s China USA or Canada.
So the old made in the USA thing is meh to me.

Our trailers are all made in the USA for the most part. I am pretty sure some have seen real crap and real good ones come off the assembly lines. Depends on who’s day off it was.

Bingo! These tires are made to the requirements specified by the manufacturer regardless of where the factory is located.

Just looking at Discount Tires website and the Maxxis and GY Endurance are almost the same price. The only difference on paper I could get out of their info is that the GY is 5 lbs heavier than the Maxxis tire.
The Endurance is supposed to be an improvement over their old Marathons. We wore out at least 3 sets of those on two different trailers. I shouldn't say wore out because we didn't run them far enough to wear out. After 8 to 10 years they just started separating. Never had one come apart, caught them first.
I opted for the GY this summer when we replaced ours after we got the axle problem "straightened out". Now I see a little more wear on the outer part of the tread. Had the alignment checked and the guy couldn't find anything wrong there.
I think the 6000lbs axles are too light even though it only shows a little under 11K on the trailer and 13 to 1400 tongue weight when loaded ready to go. Considering changing to 7K axles this spring.

When I picked up my used A194HW a bit ago, I did have the dealer put some new tires on it... but they went with the 4-ply load rated C Carlisle. I was hoping for something... better?

I'm wondering if it would be worth it to me to get some stouter tires. The aforementioned eBay search lead to a somewhat better (higher load rating, higher speed rating) tire on a white wheel. I could get 2 for $120 shipped.

Given my first real trip will be from central Texas to central Florida in January, I'm wondering if everyone thinks it wouldn't be a bad idea to get the better tires, or just go with what I've got. I would like a higher speed rating, so I'm not limited to 65MPH, and I think the higher load rating and additional plys would just end up with a larger margin of safety.

The original poster is looking for 185 80R 13 load range D tires. Most of the tires suggested do not come in this size. As Pooneil has stated this size is not common and I agree that Carlisle and Loadstar are the only two available as I have recently tried to find this size for my trailer. The other tires suggested might be the best in the world but will not help the poster if they are not available in the size he needs.

Is it possible to put 14s on vs the 13s? I know there isn't much room on my trailer to change sizes.

Not on mine. Not enough room in the wheel wells. Would have to do modifications to do that.

Maxxis makes that size.
