Towing Mileage

RedLdr1, I usually don't use tow-haul because the weight of the trailer is so small. When I was towing TT's or my 5th wheel, I always used Tow-Haul, but changed when I bought the A122S. I didn't know about tow-haul adjusting for the terrain.

Kent,

That feature isn't as well described now as it used to be... Here is the info now listed from the 2015 Ford Towing Guide:

Towing On Hills
– Downshift the transmission to assist braking on steep downgrades and to increase power (reduce lugging) when climbing hills
– With TorqShift® transmission, select Tow/Haul Mode to automatically eliminate unwanted gear search when going uphill and help control vehicle speed when going downhill

Driving With An Automatic Overdrive Transmission
With certain automatic overdrive transmissions, towing – especially in hilly areas – may cause excessive shifting between overdrive and the next
lower gear.
– To eliminate this condition and achieve steadier performance, overdrive can be locked out (see vehicle Owner’s Manual)
– If excessive shifting does not occur, use overdrive to optimize fuel economy
– Overdrive may also be locked out to obtain engine braking on downgrades
– When available, select Tow/Haul Mode to automatically eliminate unwanted gear search and help control vehicle speed when going downhill

Hopefully that will help explain what Tow / Haul can do...

does the factory brake controller on my 2014 f150 come with any gain settings once I hook up my 122s? and from the members that have ecoboost what should I espect in average mpg towing and not towing? I know my right foot controls that a lot.some owners at ford forums says v8 5 0 does beter than ecboost?

Towing mileage

My F150 has an integrated trailer brake control that enables me to adjust the gain as I drive and feel a need to do so. As for towing mileage, see my post with which I started this thread.

Ridgeline, you will get trailer info on the dashboard trailer information display. It will let you know the number of your gain setting. You will have to judge what feels right to you and adjust the gain accordingly. I've had mine set for our A122S in the 5-6 range depending upon driving conditions and terrain. In the mountains, e.g., I might bump it up a hair to give me a little more braking on the downhills. Hope that helps. I really like the systems built into my Ford for trailering.

thanks for info/think I will like ecoboost also/seems to have strong low end power and should not know my a122s is behind me/may have to give up 1or 2 mpg but has much more room than 2014 grand Cherokee I traded in /now back to aframe/only problem I have had was leak while unit was parked with front of trailer to low/raised unit and leak stopped and Velcro on factory screen room peeling off//

ridgeline1, I like that ecoboost engine a lot. As you said, I don't even know the trailer is behind me. We got our screen room set up in the driveway, just to familiarize ourselves with it before having to put it up out in the "bush" somewhere. The connecting cable in one of the poles was broken and a new one is on the way. We also found that the white velcro peels off pretty easily. It also looks like crap on the trailer. I found some commercial grade velcro in black. It blends in with the trailer graphics so well that it's hardly noticeable.
