Water heater issue

I have a suburban water in my A214hw. The water is barely warm. I've checked the gas, yes. Unit being on, (can hear it) and checked outside shower, same thing barely warm. What's odd is when I first turn the hot water on at the sink, for about 1-2 seconds, water is hot, then goes to lukewarm. I know it's working to some degree as the cold water is significantly cooler. I'm in Florida, outside temp is 62 this morning. Any ideas?

Is your inside shower turned on, but turned off at the button at the head? This will mix the hot and cold water.

Sounds like the winterization bypass valves, and the crossover valve is open.

See this thread:

Just checked the shower, both valves were off. Button was open.

Then you should check out what wmtire suggested.

Have you checked the position of your winterization/bypass valves as per the link in post #3?

This is a very common thing, and a reason why we keep that link as a sticky in the plumbing section.

This tells me you should definitely check out what wmtire suggested. You will soon have hot showers.

Yes, I am fairly confident you are going to find the crossover line/valve is open. (that one should be closed)

Yep, that was it. Found the crossover valve inline, turned it 90 degrees. Much warmer, not hot, but significantly better. Thank you!

Dan......

I hope you get this straightened out, because you really don’t want wmtire to have to come down there in person. It won’t be pretty

It should be hot.

One more thing, that can also act as crossover line, is the outdoor shower if equipped.

Just follow the same advice as Nomad gave for the indoor shower... And make sure the valves are off, and not just turned off at the handheld wand

Edit: I see you mentioned the outdoor shower in your first post. You may want to double-check and make sure the handles are turned off.

Yes, I checked that earlier. Both in and outside shower valves are are off. Here is a pix of the valve now. It was inline. Like I said , much better but not HOT. What temp should it be?Click image for larger version

Dan......

Are you using electricity or propane for heat?
Have you ever had “hot” water. Most RV tanks provide scalding water temps if things are working right.

Propane only. Honestly, this the first time we've needed hot water. Camper hasnt been used much due to wife's stroke. She's much better so we are out camping now.

The plumbing was (until I turned the crossover valve) exactly as the dealer gave it to us. I dont winterize in Orlando, but have drained the water heater, flushed, and put in new anode.

Suburbans usually come with thermostats set for 130 degrees + or - a little.

Propane is the quickest way to get hot water. Do you know if yours also has an electric heating element? Using it and the propane won't get the water any hotter...but may help you recover quicker if taking a shower.
This thread explains how the propane and electric heating element (if equipped) work..as how to use them (switches)

My water heater has a label inside the access door.
GPH recovery

6 on electric
12 on LP
18 on both.
We use both when taking back to back showers and never run out.
Ours is very hot. Haven't checked with a thermometer but you cannot hold your hand under the full hot.
