Water heater on a Rockwood Hard Side

Hello All,

Can anyone tell me how to turn on the water heater on a Rockwood A122BH Hard Side Camper? I haven't tried to use this feature yet and I'd like to know the correct procedure for starting and turning off the water heater.

First fill your tanks with water. To find out if there is water in the water heater, I just went inside, turned on the electric water pump and turned on the hot water tap. If water comes out, there is water in the tank and you can proceed. Open a propane tank. Then go inside and there's a switch just right of the fuse/reset panel. Just toggle the switch on. A red light will go on for a few seconds. The water heater runs and is self-igniting. To check if water heater is working, go outside to the water heater cover and listen for the burner or put your hand near the vent, it will get hot. To turn water heater off, just toggle the switch to off. There's another post on this same issue below.

Be sure to check the relief valve on your water heater to make sure you have water in the tank. If your system is in bypass, you will get water from your faucet but no water will be in the hot water tank tank because it is bypassing the water past the tank. Check your valve positions that are directly behind your hot water tank to see if they are in bypass or to the tank. By opening the relief valve, you will get water out of it if your hot water tank is full. If you turn on the the hot water tank and no water is in the tank, you will destroy the tank itself and have to replace the entire unit. If you know for sure that you have water in the tank, then proceed as easydoesitron has said by turning on the water heater switch. Also, don't forget to clean and santitize the hot water tank along with your fresh water tank approximately every six months to avoid foul tasting water. Hope this hels you out.

We just brought our A124 brand new and have to run the hot water/and cold water with it, couple of times to get rid of the bad smell. There is also a tiny little tap outside that you need to push on it to get the water out but you can find those information on the link above. It workes great, however, the electricity went out at our campground and we have to reset the breaker at the campsite and our hot water tank stop heating, it is asking as to "reset" so a couple of guys at the camp shows us how to light it manualy from the back panel. It will be a week before the dealer could look at it. Good luck!

Some of your statement is incorrect.

If the hw heater is bypassed you could still get water out of the hw tap.
And there will be no water in tank.

The only true way to know tank is full is to open pressure relief valve.

We've found that even if the hw tank is not by passed the valve may look like its in the correct position but be broke inside and not turning with valve.

Why would someone want to bypass the water heater? Do some campgrounds provide a hot water hookup?

To winterize your camper you have to bypass hw heater.
You don't want or need 6 or 10 gallons of antifreeze in there.

Another reason to bypass your water heater is if you want or need to de-scale or de-lime the minerals that build up inside the water heater. By bypassing the water heater during this process, you don't flush containiments throughout the rest of your fresh water system. Biggest reason is as f1100turbo has said, no reason to add rv antifreeze to the hot water tank in winter.
