Weight distribution hitch

Anyone running a weight distribution hitch? What fits? I've tried two different ones and neither fit due to propane tank placement. Thanks !

Do you use this and it fits for sure? Isn't 1000 to much? Would 600 be better? Thanks!

I had the same problem with mine hitting the tanks. I simply made two
four inch spacers and put them under the tank platform, which raised the tanks so that I can use my WDH, it's very easy and has worked for over a year with no problems

The tank platform is welded on, I'd have to cut it and re weld it

Well, I don't know what you have, so I have no idea what size you need. The 1000 is the most common, but they also have 600, 1200 and 1400 versions. The thing about the Equalizer is that there is more range in where your brackets can be located than with most setups. There is an optimal position- 32" or so IIRC from the center of the ball, but they can be moved forward some if necessary. The only other type of hitch, to my knowledge, that allows this type of flexibility but still integrates sway control and WD is the Andersen. I've not used it so I can't vouch for it's effectiveness. If neither of those will work, I don't think anything will without getting out the torch. Good luck.

Unless they've changed, it's not welded to the frame, part of it is, but if you tank the tanks off and unbolt the bottom you'll see what I'm talking about. The piece that the tanks are actually sitting on , is bolted to a sub plate that is welded. If you take it apart you'll see, when I get home I'll take pics

I've got an equalizer 4 point rated at 600 for my 212HW.

I'm very happy with it.

Common mistake, you missed that this was posted on the Aframe specific forum. Lots of folks responding from the sidebar do this.

I also have an equalizer 600 for my A212HW. No problems with clearance on propane tanks and it's the easiest weight distribution hitch I've ever used.

I did go back and see it was the A frame section after the initial oversight. Can't imagine any a frame would be very heavy, so the 600 should definitely work, I would think.

I picked up my WDH form Harbor Freight and had the same problem with the position of the tanks. I had "pad hooks" welded to the side of the frame and it works great.

WDH

Harbor Freight has them in 5,000 lb and 10,000 lb both sound like overkill to me.

I eventually found them. They have 2 part numbers for the same hitch. Different countries of origin, a reviewer said.

With 20% off cupin....

Their 2-5/16 ball only has a 5k capacity though. So instead of their $8, I'll have to spend $16 at amazon or walmart..

I use an Equalizer 600/6000 WDH/anti-sway with my A122 A-frame and Hyundai Entourage minivan. Without the WDH the minivan rear end sagged uncomfortably, and the trailer porpoised - tongue would bob up and down, causing the minivan to do the same. I discovered this at the dealer - installation of a hitch, electric brake controller, and transmission cooler were part of the deal to buy the A122.

The transmission cooler was not needed. The Hyundai Entourage came with a huge separate cooler from the factory. The transmission cooler money was put into the WDH. Yes, the propane tanks had to be lifted to install the WDH bar supports (L-brackets in Equalizer-speak). The dealer installed 1" high pieces of pipe at the mount points for the propane tank shelf. This provided enough clearance to bolt on the L-brackets. Total cost of the Equalizer and dealer installation was $320.

The unit tows like a dream with the WDH. There is no sway all the way up to 75 MPH on the Interstate in 35MPH crosswinds. My wife is comfortable spelling me and towing the camper for several hours at a time. I will never tow without a WDH when the tow vehicle has a soft rear suspension again.

I have not tried any other WDHs, but I am very happy with the Equalizer. Less than 5 minutes to install and hook-up, and the same to remove at the campsite. The minivan makes a great sight-seeing vehicle, but I don't like leaving the hitch head on the minivan when we are camping.

By the way, you have never said what A-frame you own, and what your tow vehicle is. Weights could make a difference. The max gross of the A122 is only 3100 lbs, and I tow at about 2700-2900 lbs (depending on water and food and other equipment).
