Winterizing A122S
I purchased a new A122S a couple of months ago. It is now time to winterize and I need help. Is there a thread on the Forest River site that gives detailed instructions regarding this? I have located bits and pieces but no detailed blow by blow instructions. I would like to go the air pressure route if possible and avoid using anti-freeze.
Here's what I've accomplished thus far. 1-I have drained the water heater and turned the three valves ubnder the LF seat to their proper by-pass positions. Will the small amount of left over water in the water heater be an issue? 2-I've pulled up the two drain valves under the sink and opened the shower and sink faucets. 3-I have drained the water tank under the trailer. 4-I have blown air (compressor) into the city water feed. How do I get the water out of the water pump and how do I address the water filter resservoir which are stll is full of water? 5-I have poured anti-freeze in the sink trap. What have I missed? Thanks, Big Red

Sounds like you've done just about all that's necessary, except for the filter reservoir, which you should have a big plastic wrench for in the materials that came with the camper. You'll need to lay some thirsty towels under the reservoir when you unscrew it. The little water left in the tank and the water heater won't be a problem--if it freezes it'll just make a hump in the middle of the ice layer but won't expand enough to break your tank. When you blew the air in did you reopen the sink and shower valves to let the water blow out of them?
There are gobs of suggestions on the forum for winterizing the a-frames. The most recent is probably "A128 Converted from Aliner Ranger". It's a long thread but somewhere in the middle it gets into winterizing. There'll even be some stuff about getting antifreeze into the pump. Otherwise the forum's search function should surface other winterizing threads.
Welcome, by the way. Post pictures when you can; were all addicted to looking at each others' camping setups!

One thing that seems to get missed is the drain for the sink. When I laid up my T12RB a few weeks back, I couldn't get the drain apart and had no anti-freeze to put in. So I repeatedly dipped a twisted towel in the drain outlet to sop up as much water as I could. I left the cap off for a few days hoping that the rest would evaporate to a safe level or better.
A side bar question: I only used the water system a couple of times this year and the filters are pretty pricey. Has anyone had a problem just letting them dry out and putting them back in the following year?

I took my filter out last year and tossed it. It restricted the water flow so much that I didn't replace it. I just take drinking water along in gallon jugs and use the city water or tank water for hand washing or cooking etc.

Yep, we do the same. Gary actually removed the filter casing all together to free up more under sink storage. Here's a pic of the connections minus the filter.

That explains why I couldn't see them either. The iPhone/iPad apps for the forum have a few kinks to be worked out.

You don't have to go to a browser just click the post in the middle and magic you see the links. I do agree the apple app does not match the browser, even the icons we cannot see it in the app and vice versa.

Yep. Just tap the post, that's what I meant to say. Technically that's opening the thread in the FRF app browser.

On a more related note. I just winterized my A126. I'm lucky to have enough space to fit my Jeep and camper in the garage so winterizing isn't super critical.
I blow the lines, drain the heater and set bypass, empty the fresh tank on the toilet, empty the toilet filler neck, put olive oil on the seal in the toilet black tank (after thoroughly rinsing the tank several times), clean everything real good (including the toilet surfaces and toilet bowl, and push her into the garage.
I use the wheel chocks to mark the stopping point in the garage to ensure I don't hit the camper and that I'm in far enough to close the garage door.
Here are a couple picks of the 'fit'
Warning: it's sad to see a camper trapped in a garage for the winter.

Wow, that IS a tight fit! Using the chocks to mark your Jeep spot is a great idea!

That was a pic from last year, and I had just finished giving it a full wax before winter storage.
Ill say that it was cleaner than new, at least cleaner than the day I picked it up. And she only had 16 or so camping days in her then.

Jeep4Two, Nice looking Jeep. I would love a Wrangler, but I don't think there is any way to put a kayak on the roof. Why don't they make slots in the roof so you can attach a Yakima carrier? Tinsu

There are safari racks available. They mount to points at the rear bumper and front windshield.
This one http://www.quadratec.com/products/12028_7000_07.htm is a base rack that you can add cargo racks to. Not that I recommend this one, but just an example.
