2014 3850RL Entertainment Center

I didn't like the way the AV cabling was setup in my new Trilogy from the factory. So, I moved all of my electronics to the upper cabinet. This includes my router, DirecTV, DVD player, wireless internet, printer and more.

I quickly found the remote controls didn't pass through the wooden doors. I tried leaving the door(s) open when watching TV but that looked bad and I hit my head on it when walking by.

I removed the center panel insert on the doors and had grey glass installed. The glass was not dark enough for my liking so I had the local automotive tinting business add some window tint.

The other option would be to add an IR extender/repeater. It basically allows you to move the IR eye from the device to a more viewable location via a small wire.

Yep, that would have worked. But, I have the DirecTV box, DVD player, DVD Recorder/Player that require remotes. Just easier (for me anyway) to do the glass. Total cost was $10 for 2 pieces of glass and $25 for both to be tinted.

I installed the iogear wireless HDMI and the logictech rf remote to the bedroom, it works well if you just want to use one Dirctv receiver.
