Fifth wheel hitch

I am looking at all the hitches and feel the slider is just for short beds, right? So I know it may be overkill but I was thinking about the Husky 26,000 lb. 5th Wheel Hitch for Long Bed trucks as it articulates and may be beneficial, plus Right now it is less costly then lesser hitches but thought I would get opinions. What do you think?

no such thing as to much hitch. Better safe than sorry. Yes, the sliders are for short beds to provide clearance on tight turns. I have the Curt Q20 in my long bed. Really like it.

My 2014 Rockwood 8285IKWS came with a Reese Revolution Sidewinder installed on the trailer. It pivots 22 inches back from the kingpin, under the trailer. With it you do not need a sliding 5th wheel hitch. I guess what I am trying to say is check your 5th wheel camper to see what kind of hitch is installed on it. You may not need the sliding 5th wheel in your truck and it might save you some money.

Happy camping....

Someone after my own heart, and there is no such thing as over kill when it comes to safety, like said above. I am running a 20,000lb hitch on my rig and love the double pivot. Check with the guys in the shop or parts and ask what they think, they are the ones who know best not the sales guy. Then take that info and go from there but if there bigger hitch is almost the same price I say go for it..!

not necessarily. The parts guy will tell you what he has in stock is the best. Way better deals online. Hitchanything or etrailer are 2 very popular ones. The saying "you get what you pay for" definitely applies here. Stick with one of the big names. Curt, Reese, etc.

I do agree with the parts guy, anything to make a sale even if it is borderline. They want money and rarely care about the consumer. Are most hitches articulating? I will search I did find a 200 mile old Husky 26k in Vegas for 375 but on eBay. Missing one locking plate, whatever that is.

if that's just for hitch, no mounting brackets, and since its missing parts, not that great of a deal.

It is complete but missing one locking plate. On EBay in Las Vegas. That is a 3.5 hour drive from me, so 8 hours total giving time to enjoy the beautiful desert scenery and to stop and have a quick buffet. You are right though, it is missing something so buyer beware. I will buy new. Everything else is why skimp now on such an important part. Thanks

When I got my Curt Q20 from hitchanything 2 months ago it was 30% off and shipping was free. Came in 2 days by tractor trailer on a pallet right to my garage door. Couldn't beat it.

Fifth wheel hitch

The Q24 is 40.00 more then the Q20 with the Ford install kit free shipping. Much more then the 350 for used but what price do you put on peace of mind? Yet I am still searching. Is install something that is possible at home? My truck is ready for any hitch from the factory.

I have the exact hitch that you are looking at. It is a good hitch & I have had absolutely no problems; however, if pin weight is a concern - beware that this is one heavy sucker. It is significantly heavier than a 16K hitch.

Finally settled for a Reese 25K as it installs right on the factory under bed rails. It was costly but I used American Rv Company not far from my house with free delivery. I looked at other places for it and they were all the same price, BUT, American RV had a make offer box so I made an offer I did not think they would accept and it was accepted. Should have offered less haha. Saturday I went and looked at the unit which is a 3800rl (I erred in that on my earlier post) and found some issues that was told no problem. So Sunday on my actual walk through I went inside and found the rear inner window shattered and screen ripped. Further inspection I see the lot boy ( I have another name for him but reserve it for outside public forums) closed the slides without the chairs tucked away and smashed them. Along with it one of the wood slides both valances and some minor wall damage. Now how is this for stupid? All parts are ordered to repair and replace the chairs. It just sucks. They say just one week and someone may very well lose their job, I hope not.

The dining chairs are $115 each. Please don't ask how I know.

Haha the chairs they broke were the leather swivels. Guess it is better for me they did it and showed me what those slides can do. Now I will be much much more careful.

Back to the hitch issue. I used a Reese Goose Box with our Cardinal 37RL fiver. The Trilogy 36RE is more trailer than the goose-box can handle. With great regret, I am installing a 5th wheel hitch in the bed of my truck. The touring has the ridgid rubber pin box so I am installing a trailer-saver TS3 with air bags by Hensley Manufacturing.

Thats a good hitch. I have the Hensley BD3, this is my second season with it, really smooths out the ride. A bit pricey but worth every penny.

I sold the goose-box today and reinstalled the original pinbox. The Hensley TS3 was installed two days ago. I am excited to try it out but am not planning an extensive trip until the end of May.

It seems that Reese has not been able to keep up with production as they are on backorder

i have a Reese Air ride Side winder, I love this pin box, is turns under the fifth wheel instead of in the truck bed. What is this means is, short turning radius. You don't have to swing out as far until your able to make your turn and the front of my 2013 3800D3 is 21" FARTHER AWAY FORM MY CAB. I HAVE HAD IT IN OVER A 90 DEG. TRUN AND IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO MY TRUCK CAB. I have a 18,000 lbs KW slider hitch but I don't need to use the slider anymore and it rides like a dream.
