San Angelo Storm

A couple of weeks ago we were in San Angelo, Texas for a few days. At 0230 in the morning, the day we were to leave a storm front came through and slapped us pretty hard. Both the Ford truck and Trilogy suffered damage. About $30,000 in total. The structure was from a storage facility shed roof, about 30x30. The power company was out replacing broken telephone poles and used their crane to help us get the truck and camper pulled out. When it hit, it sounded like a direct lightning strike, while being inside a metal can.

By the way, that kayak is not ours. It was attached to the structure. By every sense of a miracle and God's hand, there were no broken or cracked windows.

Sorry to see all the damage, but glad no one was injured. Hopefully repairs won't take too long.

Yes, we were sleeping in the camper. We were in an overflow area. The storm woke us up and the camper was starting to shake. By the time we were moving about, the structure hit us and it rocked the camper to the point I am positive the curb side wheels were off the ground. The camper paused and then fell back on the curbside tires. Scared the crap out of us but it was raining so hard, blowing, lightning, and power poles/lines were down (some lines on the camper) we could do nothing but call 911. We were finally safe to come out about 3.5 hours later.

Satellite dish was crumpled like a beer can and sheared off. Same for the digital TV antenna.

John we were rolling north out of Louisiana around the time you posted this and I'm just now getting to checking the FR forums. Please keep us up to date on how things go as you move forward with making things right with repairs/insurance etc. This is a situation that could have happened to any of us. Glad to hear you were safe following what must have been a terrifying experience.

Will keep everyone posted. We are scheduled to drop the camper off at Fun Town RV in San Angelo on Friday. The truck goes to the body shop on Friday in San Angelo as well.

Our insurance is GEICO and I will presently rate them 10 out of 10. They have been fabulous! I already have the checks for both repairs.

In Flagstaff for a couple of days as we work our way back to San Angelo. Taking the train to the Grand Canyon tomorrow!!

John
