Why Do I Need This Breaker Box?

I have a breaker box in my generator compartment and is pictured below. I don't know what this box is used for. My ONAN 5500 has it's own breakers for each side of it's output (25A and 20A I believe). So, what circuit is this box used for?

What does the E M S stand for?

John

P.S. Anyone know how to keep the photo attachments from rotating?

EMS usually stands for Energy Management System but that has E M R on it, and I'm not sure what that stands for.

To keep the photos from rotating, take the pics with the phone in landscape mode (sideways).

They look to be sized for electrical outlets throughout your unit. Open one and check for no AC at some of them.

Entertainment, Microwave, Refrigerator. They're supposed to allow you to choose what is drawing power off of your inverter.

kwoodrg,

Thanks for the reply. In my original email I meant to say E. M. R. but guess I had EMS on the brain.

It makes sense what you say they stand for, but... When power is shutoff, the Microwave is off too. No clock display. Time to get the meter out and see what is going on.

I have a power strip in the entertainment cabinet. All of my router, switch, entertainment boxes, etc. are plugged into it. I found that if I didn't shut off the equipment up there it would drain my batteries pretty quick. Now that I know it could have been done in the generator compartment, I would have put a power strip in the cabinet anyway. Easier to open the entertainment cabinet door that get into the generator compartment.

Thanks again!
John

Send a message via MSN to Tiggerdad
Pull the cover to verify that one wire is wired to supply side and other to outlet side of the breakers. If so, KWOODRG's comment makes sense. Verify that each breaker shuts of the mention items.

Wouldn't be the first time something was wired and going nowhere.
