battery will not hold a charge either on 120 or on the road also generator problems starting, only 1200 miles on the rv

Possibly the battery is now over 3 years old - if it sat for long periods and the battery was drained there is a good chance the battery is bad. Check the battery condition first - if the battery is okay check the voltage at the battery while plugged in or motor running - need to see at least 13VDC or more.

My bet is a bad battery.
