5er propane regulator question

Can anyone explain why on a dual tank tt there is a single regulator for 2 tanks and on a 5er with a tank on each side there is a 30# regulator on the street side tank and another regulator with 2 inlets and the auto switchover device on the curb side?

I can answer that....

Its becuase on a 5er the tanks are spread apart and they cannot run a non regulated hose through the camper to reach the other tank with the regulator.
Your only allowed so many inches of hose un regulated.

Ordered a new 30# regulator after replacing the autotransfer/regulator as the street side regulator will not transfer gas to the other side. Also replaced the street side pigtail to the tank.

Its to keep the tank pressure gas from re-liquidfieing. Anytime you gas LP Gas above approx 20psi UNDER the right conditions (temp and pressure) liquid can form and cause regulator freeze ups and all kinds of other issues. Its not as much of an issue on the short pigtails and generally (but not always) the regulator is mounted higher than the valve outlet which alows any liquid that might form to flow back to the tank.
regards

Let me ask you something you may know. I have had 3 camper's before this Cedar Creek and the LP in the 30lb tanks always would empty out but on this camper about 1/2gl of gas is left in the tank and it's the same for each tank. Do you think I might need to change the regulator? It too makes a lot of noise when the furnace is on. Also will it be a problem if I take one of the short pigtails next to the regulator and replace it with one thats 60in long, that way I can use a 20lb tank sometimes in the winter when I run low on LP?

I believe the regulator is a pressure device and it can be used on any size propane tank.

The tanks should empty, could be overly sensistive excess flow in the pigtail or valve, regulator really doesnt have anything to do with that, it only regulates incoming pressure. Only issue with longer pigtail will be as I said above, But if your reserve tank is lower than inlet of the regulator it shouldnt be a problem (liquid flows downhill)

Regards
