Atwood gas water heater

I have a 2017 prime time avenger ati. The gas water heater has a hard time lighting. It will ignite about 5 times before it will finally light and start burning. It's also starting to smut up the side of the trailer. What are some things I can check to get this thing operating correctly. Thanks!

Not knowing what model Atwood you have, here is a manual with some trouble shooting procedures. (pg. 11 pilot & pg. 19 electronic)
Atwood Water Heater

There are also several videos on YouTube with troubleshooting tips.

black up the side of the trailer indicates burning way rich. Follow the guide suggestion provided and let the forum know what you find and fix so others can learn from your experience.

I had the exact same issue. It was a spider web blocking the air Venturi. Use an air compressor or brush to clear them

Check for spiders or mud dubbers in the flu. If you need to clan the small gas orifice do not stick anything is the hole ( use air or soft brush) The smallest change in the size of the orifice will cause the WH to malfunction.

X2. Had same issue on a previous rv and found spider web. This keeps the air/gas mixture from being proper ratio. If you have a outside burner and it burns yellow, this will blacken pots, it's same thing.
