Auto Propane Switch Over or Something Else?
I have a 19XBl Salem lite with 2 propane bottles but do not have the auto switch over regulator. I was going to purchase one but the reviews were not that good. I was looking at the Domestic LP indicator to determine levels, but then again the reviews were ok. Any ideas? Don't really do to much cold camping where I run the furnace but then again don't want to run out of propane. Any help would be appreciated!

In my experiences auto change overs are a bad idea. Too easy to run totally out of gas at 7PM on a Saturday night.
I have an auto change over and refuse to use it any longer exactly for the reason I just mentioned.

I like the auto change over, furnace has a tendency to run out of LP in the middle of the night. My auto changeover will tell me when one tank is empty. I have sensors on my tanks now so hopefully I won't run out of fuel again.

I won't use one, too easy to forget and run out.

I use mine all the time and love it. Mine shows me when it switches over, I believe most if not all of them have an indicator. When I turn gas off or on, I look at the indicator. I DO NOT actually switch over to the other tank until I refill the empty one. That means I always have at least one full bottle.
Yes, if you switch over before filling the empty bottle then there is nothing to remind you that one bottle is empty. If you don't switch, then it automatically draws off of the other bottle, but still shows you the indicator reminding you that your selected bottle is empty. Then when I get the bottle refilled, I switch to the other one so that my "spare" is the one I just refilled.

I love the auto change over. I think the secret is to check the tank gauge as the red comes up, when in is full red, flip the lever, close the empty tank, the gauge showed green, tomorrow remove the empty tank & take to fill.

Personally, I like the auto change over regulator. It will tell you (if you go look at it) if one of your bottles is empty. However, I still like to check my levels from time to time. I've had very good results with the Truma Level Check.
